Be caeful with this one. I also had play in my diff aswell, and it got worse over time. To the point were there was so much play, that on tight turns the axel flange would contact the transmission case on the drivers side. I replaced the diff with a used one form a car that was smashed in the front. All 308,328,TR,348,355 have some axel play in the diff. The 308's seem to have the most movement out of all of them. I pulled my old diff apart and found the cause was excesive movement of the spider gears on the center shaft were the spider gear rides. It appears that the shaft was not hardend enough from the factory and gets worn out very easy.

Yes that's right the driver side. In fact the play is probably much closer to 10 thousandths than 5. To make it clear, this is up and down movement.

It's sounds normal by the way you describe it.

I have an 87 328GTS and I have just been changing a drive shaft rubber boot on the right hand side. While torquing the bolts I noticed the inboard flange had some movement at the differential, I would estimate about 5-10 thousandths radial play, is this normal ? looks sloppy to me. The car is on stands so all weight is off. I have not encountered a limited slip dif before. I haven't had the car long but have not observed any noise or vibration etc. the car has about 40,000 miles and drives fine. Anyone have experience of this ?? any adjustment capabilities in the dif. ?
