Well, incredibly my hood from Ferrari UK arrived within 24 hours! I must commend Ferrari UK for outstanding service! Thank you very much, Jeff and Mark!

However, due to a factory flaw , ie one of the latch knobs was welded on crooked, I may possibly need to have it cut and rewelded. Before doing that though, I'm wondering if there might be enough adjustment play on the body-mounted latch itself to compensate for this and line it up to the crooked knob.

My question is: how does one one adjust the latch--it is throgh the 2 bolts in the front of the latch? Any pitfalls in this procedure?

I'd like to stress that this flaw in the hood is not the fault of Ferrari UK--the latch piece is actually welded on at an angle--strange , but true.

Bill,

Paint it and bolt it in. No cutting or magic hammer needed.

Hardest part was trying to get the paint guys to realize that the panel is (on my car at least) flat black on the inside. They just wanted to shoot the whole panel one color.

Mine was not a QV so I did not have the opening in the panel so I do not know if screw holes are needed for the vent. Looking at the pic it looks like there might be a couple of screw holes already but it's hard to tell.

Should be a piece of cake.

Matt--was this true in your experience--ie, did the hood need cutting? I certainly hope not!!

Hi,

Let us know how it fits, iheard they are all long and need to be cut and fit and that takes a lot of Body shop labor and when all is said in done it can be very costly. Would love to know since I have similar decision to make.

Indeed , it is equipped with the mounting hardware. I ordered one today! What a phenomenal deal--Ferrari UK to the rescue!

Thank you, Jeff and Mark--you just saved me a lot of money. It was pleasure dealing with you. I'll be back.

Mark--beautiful! I'll likely be ordering one. However, it looks like the mounting studs and knobs for the latches aren't installed on the hood. Do you have those pieces in stock or are they usually installed and just missing from this particular hood?

I have another Q--do you have any Euro syed bumpers and lower front grills in stock? If so, what is your price?

Thanks.

Hi Matt.

We're (usually or often) cheaper because what's the point of having tons of stock here and not being able to sell it because we're priced out of whack. The cars you guys drive are now everyday cars so we price where we can to reflect that.

Older Ferraris are obtainable now so the parts should be too. Why rip people off; the whole Ferrari thing is too big and too much fun for that !

Have a nice day !

That's a deal! I still cannot understand why your prices are so cheap.

Should be an easy find. I'd be surprised if Ted doesn't have one at T. Rutlands. Also a place in Upstate New York(Watertown area), I believe name is Strictly British, that has Ferrari parts.

Hmm,
There's a good chance it's repairable: Separate it from the frame, use on an English Wheel to smooth it out, & shrink any gouges, make a new frame, or replace the bent sections...

You'd be amazed what a good metal worker can do.

There are a couple of restoration shops & a small shop that does custom work in my area that I'd be confident taking it to.

You have to look around. Sometimes the big auto body shops are into high volume/high profit highly competetive work & won't touch restoration or real metal bending. eg: They can get a pre-primed new after-market fender for $80-$90, or a hood for $150. Bolt it on, paint it & out of the door with 3-4 hours total labor. The fender or hood was perfectly repairable, but would have taken 4-6 hours to straighten & smooth, then the same 3-4 hours to prep & paint.

I went looking for fairly basic metal bending tools (dollies & spoons) at a local auto body & blew their mind. Had to dig out a catalog. Hadn't sold any in 5 or 6 years! Said only hobbiests do any serious metal bending anymore!

Key question to keep in mind will be how much would the repair cost compared to buying a good used one (assuming you can find one).

Unfortunately, hoods may be in somewhat short supply becaise they usually don't escape when the car drives into something. Also so many get bent by someone not releasing the strut latch button. Also, Again, it's been cheaper to replace than to repair, even tho a latch strut kink really isn't very serious damage.

Verell--the frame is bent in a couple of places. When this happened, the deck lid was up and the stuff hit with force. The passenger side was torqued toward the windshield, while the driver side bent toward the front , with a nice big bulge where the strut attaches. I may bring it to Wide World of Cars to see if they think it's repairable. I'm sick over this, to say the least.

Another option:
The deck lid's contours are pretty simple. If the frame isn't bent, it should be possible to re-skin it with sheet aluminum.

Well, a traumatic mishap occurred in my garage last nigt--a work bench collapsed and a drill press and several other tools, paint cans, etc. , etc fell onto the front of my pristine, original '85 308!!! While paint/ body work will be needed for the scrates, dimples, etc, I feel as though the deck lid should just be replace due to the very deep dents . It would likely cost as much or more to fix it as replace it. So, that's my sad story ! Does anyone out there have one you'd be willing to part with and/or what would be good resources to explore to find one. I've already emailed Rutlands, Evans, Ferrari Parts Exchange, but must wait until Mon for inventory searches. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. What a nightmare!!!!!
