Peter, if he's interested in trading his sticky switches for carbon fiber ones, contact me. I assume that the external part can be swapped, leaving the electrical internals intact. The reason he would have to trade is because we'll need to make molds of the originals. This wouldn't take long, since they're so small.

The ash tray on my 355 had the same problem; I was able to successfully refinish it. Look in the archives for a step by step set of instructions.

if this is the same "sticky surface" problem that the 355s get, check the archives. i remember martin (?) posting some process to clean it off.

from what i've been able to suss, this is caused by one or more of the following:
- cleaning products; just use water
- salt air
- lots of direct sunlight (cover your car if you park it outside)

It took some work but eventually I got all that varnish off my switches on the old 550. Everything was fine after that.

My 575 does not seem to have that coating.

I have had a problem with some of the soft touch varnish prematurely wearing off on the window switched. I had 2 replaced under warranty (back when I still had a warranty...) and the new ones appear to be much more durable.

I guess it's the surface that's becoming sticky. He doesn't want to respray them or replace them with the original switches. He's wondering if there are carbon fiber alternatives available out there.

Are the switches really "melting" or is it the soft touch varnish which is peeling away ?

This is on behalf of my friend who owns a 550 and the switches inside the car are "melting." Are there carbon fiber replacements for these switches? Thanks!
