Your welcome Brian. If you have a digital camera, document the procedure & email to Mr. Lay for inclusion in the "Parts & Service" section for the next afflicted owner. Best,
Carl |

It turns out that I have the early model flange on mine. When I replaced the seal there was no spacer installed nor did I install one. That very well could be my problem. I will go ahead and order in the spacer and a new seal and try again. Thanks for your help Carl. |

Hi again Brian, According to Service Bulletin #10-18 dated 4/20/87: New seal (with double lip) part #132452 (red) introduced beginning with chassis #69745 (USA). "In case of replacement on a previous vehicle, employ the new oil seal #132452 which can be installed on the previous flange (#126115) with the addition of the 1.25mm spacer (#133066) in order to achieve a correct positioning" Alternatively the "new" mounting flange is #133346 - which doesn't require spacer. Hope this helps out.
Carl

Thanks Carl. I will get back to you in a couple of days...I'm headed out the door now and will be away from the computer. What you said about the change from 87-on got me thinking. The right head on my car (the one that is leaking) has been replaced at one point with one from an 87-88 model year. Wonder if that has anything to do with it? Brian |

Hi Brian, I'll take an (unexperienced) stab at this one (and forgive me if you know all of this already): The TR & 3.2 seals I have been told are identical except for color (3.2 black, TR red)& part # is single digit difference. As I recall on the later 3.2 cars (87-on) the distributor oil seals & possibly distributor rotor shaft(?) design was changed due to problems with oil leakage. Have the service bulletins at home which briefly reference 12cyl, drop me a line [email protected] & I can look up/xerox & send to you tonight. (My seal replacement technique is posted in the "parts & service" section of the website - but sounds like you've performed properly) Sorry can't be more helpful. Probable some of the TR folks on here or JRV, Mr. Magnussen, Mr. Badowsky have first-hand experience)

Hello, I am having a problem with being able to get the oil seal in the distributor cap of my 86 TR to seal properly. I replaced both seals about nine months ago and one sealed up fine and the other still leaks. So here recently I replaced it again. I was real careful not to damage the seal and also applied some silicon lube before installation. Still no change and continues to leak. The surface on the cam is clean and appears to be smooth with no nicks. Does anyone have any suggestions that I can try to rectify this situation. Thanks Brian |
