Hi, guys, I'm in need of the snap "nipples" for my 1981 308 gtsi. Anyone have any they want to unload? I need three of them. Rory, 214/244-9840 |

Dave, I agree completely with the enclosed bag comment. I have one of the Saratoga Tops for my 328 that came with its own bag, and everytime I try to get the top into the bag by myself, I'm afraid that I am going to drop it. When you have an extra set of hands to help you its not an issue, but doing it alone can be a bit challenging. Getting it out of the bag alone isn't too difficult. |

Paul, While the thought of a fully enclosed bag may sound nice, from a practical point, it will be a lot of work to get in/out of and risk of slipping/dropping the top on the ground.... For once, I think Ferrari got this thing right from the start. :-) |

I just bought some vinyl to make a cover, and in fact will probably actually make it a bag that fits at the same location. The extra cost of material is not much and there doesn't seem to be any reason not to fully enclose the roof. I plan to put a flap on the bag that will attach to the shelf pins like the original cover. When I say I, of course I really mean my wife, just thought I should own up to that one. Should have it done in a few days as long as I am especially nice to her :-) |

Is the original cover leather or vinyl? |

One note that when you buy the cover from Jeff Howe it comes with the four snaps already. I thought you had to buy them seperate so now I have four spares. Also when the cover was new I didn't think it fit- it takes a little while for it to stretch enough to fit all four snap points. |

No problem Paul. The fasteners are called 'durable dots'. Cheers. |

Thanks for the info Dave I think this makes it easier to make than I had thought, looking at the clips they look similar to the ones use in British sports cars to fix hoods and toneau covers, I think they are called DOT fastners. Thanks to you also Jeff, I think I will spend my hard earned cash with you on engine bits etc. I was just at your facility a few weeks ago buying spares, very friendly people and a fantastic display of beautiful cars around the workshops and showroom, I recommend a visit for those that can make it. |

Yes, look at your shelf, and down at the bottom of the raised base. You will see a "nipple" at the top and bottom for the snaps to fit on. The top fits with the pins facing up, and the top (roof) facing the seats. The vinyl cover will help prevent rubbing/scratching the top. I always make sure the seat backs don't touch the cover either, as it can make black marks on the seat backs, although it is easily cleaned off. www.ferraripartsexchange.com has them listed under "interior" for $385. Says it is for the 308, so it must come with the standard chrome Tenex snaps. You could buy this, then get the two plastic horsy Tenex snaps from the dealer. I cannot find the guy who was advertising these in the FCA newsletter. |

Ahhhhh......... there you go you see, since I haven't got one I assumed it was a bag, so you are saying it is just a cover ? and it snaps onto the rear shelf ? |

As far as those black snaps with the cavallino on them go, I've found them at Ferrari of Dallas for around $8. Rather reasonable as far as dealer parts go. I had to replace two of my covers snaps already. Dave |

Paul, Original ones are still availabe (I assume) and would be worth check with Ferrari UK. Reproductions are available from Ferrari Parts Exchange. There is some guy advertising reproductions in the FCA newsletter too. I have never seen a horse embossed on the factory cover. Note that the reproductions probably will not have the plastic snaps with the horsy on them, just the plain metal Tenex tabs.... |

Bag? Or do you mean the vinyl cover that goes over it when stored behind the rear seat? |

When I bought my 328 GTS it did not have the roof storage bag, I am not bothered about having the "genuine" article in this case, so I plan on making one myself. I am sure it would be very expensive to have one with an embossed Horsey anyway. Has anyone already made one ? any tips or advice ? Since I don't have a bag for a pattern any photos/details would be much appreciated. |
