Thanks to those who replied to my request....Here's the latest update: I called a couple of local electrical service shops and none of them had replacement parts for this particular Nippon starter...I was told that the rotation of the starter is counter-clock-wise (as oppossed to clock-wise rotation for 90% of the starters out there)....So it's difficult to come up with good used parts of this one...Unless the shop happens to have a used 348 starter on the shelf (very unlikely). However, if anyone knows of a shop that rebuilts a 348 Nippon starter (in the NorthEast) please email me or post the info here. Thanks again VK |

When I had my Nippondenso starter rebuilt, the local shop took it as just another bad starter and fixed it in 2 hours. I sent it to Rite-way Electric, 415-882-4444. They were referred to me by Ferrari of SF. I would recommend to check your local yellow pages first. Any competent starter shop can fix it w/ no hitch. Good luck |

Don, I think the 308 starter is not the same as the 348 starter...Mine is q Japaneese starter made by Nippodesko and the parts are NOT commonly available as with other Nippo or Bosch starters...I had it taken to two local alternator places so far and both told me that parts for this particular type of starter as not easy to find...Although Nippo starters can be found in the Hondas and Toyotas, it seems that the 348 starter has completely different internal parts...Again, that's what I was told. Anyone who has any different info for the 348 starter or an alternative source for parts please let me know...I'm pretty certain the 308 and 348 starters are different. Regards VK |

Any good local alternator/starter rebuild shop should do. I had mine done (308) for about $100 here in the Kansas City area. No need to send it away. You might not want to tell them that it is from a Ferrari until after you get a price from them. Not that it should matter to the really good shops as they should be able to rebuild just about anything. Good luck Don |

My 348 starter needs rebuilding. It's a Nippo starter and I'm looking for a reputable place that can do this work, preferably in NY...or I can ship it out if I have to...I don't want to get a new starter at dealer prices... If anyone can suggest a place for a quality rebult job, please let know. I'm sure some of you had to do the same thing with your starter (sooner or later)... Thanks VK |
