That's another good idea; thanks Dave! Rats, now I'm itching to get working on it, but I'm away from home for another week or so. --Woody |

William, An even easier way to connect a battery tender is with a cigarette plug adapter. Radio Shack sells one with a 8 or 9ft cord. Buy a Molex connector while you are at it, and you are good to go; just splice it in. This way you don't have to open the front bonnet or anything. |

Wow, thanks for all the replies folks! Nice tip on the motronic memory. I did some searching on the archives and it seems like a lot of folks like the Optimas. I checked a local Costco, and they have the "red top" for $99.99, so I'll probably get one there. They didn't have the orange top model; someone said that one had the terminals reversed. If I remember correctly, I need the POS terminal outboard and the NEG inboard, which is opposite what the red top battery has. There was also a nice tip in the archives about using the side terminals to add some wiring and a plug for the battery charger. If anyone can recommend a kit I'd appreciate it. I've got a digital camera, so when I do this repair I'll post some pix if anyone is interested. --Woody |

It is a do it yourself job. Good to get in there and clean up the debris that collects on the battery tray as well. Clean and check connections. At re-start after a battery change let the car idle without touching the throttle for about 20 minutes. This will let the motronic 2.5 regain memory and re-set itself.

it is easy as it sounds - remove right front tire and you are there; no problem to do your own |

Haven't done a T. But, have done it 2X on my '84 cab. If it sits on right side, in front of tire like my cab, it did require removing front wheel. After wheel was off, needed to remove bolt-on access panel. from there, just a bolt-down retainer. Access a little tight for tightening battery connections.I don't know, if this helps or not. |

>>I heard that I can replace it myself if I remove the wheel and fender well. Anyone done this? Is it as easy as it sounds? << Done a few, yep, easy as it sounds. Just make sure you don't reverse the polarity and it's a piece-o-cake.

The battery on my Mondial t is dying fast. I heard that I can replace it myself if I remove the wheel and fender well. Anyone done this? Is it as easy as it sounds? Also, unless anyone has a better suggestion, I'm thinking of putting in a Die Hard. I don't show the car, just want it to start reliably. Is there a better battery out there? Thanks for the help. --Woody |
