Bruce, it only takes about 3 hours to tear down the parts that Hank stated need to come out before you get to the main seal. You can get the seal for about $50 from TRutlands. Hey, you can rebuild your clutch while you are at it! Its great fun!! If you don't want to do it, then take it in because I don''t think the 30K involves taking the clutch ass'y apart, per se, although I can look at my invoice to see for sure. |

Hard to say. The space between the flywheel and clutch housing is very small......hence, little room for the oil to get into the clutch area. The oil must be coming from the rectangular, muti-holed plate on the upper right side of the engine. I would keep checking for any oil coming from one of the openings in the bell housing further back from this plate......from where you can see the clutch assembly.......if you see any, then oil is getting onto the clutch also. |

I FIGUREFD THAT HENRY, IM AFRAID OF THE OIL GOING ON THE CLUTCH..I HAVE TILL DEC=JAN FOR MY SCHEDULED 30K SERVICE..THE LEAK IS ENOUGH TO SEE SPLATTER ON THE BOOTS, AND TOPS OF THE CATS AND A LITTLE THROUGH THE BACK GRILLE.. IF I JUST CAREFULLY WATCH IT AND WIPE IT DOWN , IS THAT COOL TO BUY TIME OR I AM JUST LOOKING FOR TROUBLE?? THANKS HENRY, BRUCE |

The rear main seal sits right behind the flywheel. To get at it, one removes the bell housing, clutch, and flywheel......with engine in the car. The flywheel actually helps to prevent the oil from getting on the clutch, however, this will depend on how big the leak is.......you are risking ruining your clutch. |
