Hank, they are on the clutch side of the flywheel, around the rim. There are several threaded studs, the three small locating pins, and what David is referring to as 'locating dowels' and I was referring to as pins because they are not threaded. That vice/slide hammer tool sounds like the trick. We tried to twist them out, no luck. Maybe the jolt will lossen them. Hope so. thanks David. It helps to know what we are dealing with.

Jim: I read your response on the FCA site.

It seems that you are talking about the threaded studs (6 of them), 3 screw-in alignment pins, and the three pins you are referring to......are these 3 on the crankshaft side of the flywheel? Mine only had the 6 studs and the 3 screw-in pins.....there was a single stud, in the crankshaft, to align the flywheel to it. I can't seem to find these in the TR, or Boxer parts manuals.

RE: Throw-out bearing; The parts manual show the TO bearing as 2 pieces. When I had mine removed I did not try to take them apart.......for the same reasons as you. Since mine worked smooth, I just put it back in.

David: Are you referring to the Boxer? On mine they where screwed in.......4-6mm bolt, with an 8mm base......I used an 8mm closed end wrench to remove mine.

Jim,
Those locating dowels are just lightly pressed in...There's a tool which looks like a pair of vice grips, with a slide hammer attached to one of the arms which my machine shop used to remove the pins. The purpose of these pins is simply to locate the pressure plate, hence the mounting bolts are not in shear.

I have my flywheel at a machine shop to grind, and there are three pins that cannot be removed by normal means. They are the only three that don't have a hole that goes to back side of flywheel, like the threaded studs do. Are they pressed in? Is there a trick to removing them??? On Monday, if no answers, will have to grind them off, drill them out, and fabricate some new ones. I think we can take a grade 8 bolt and cut the head off, and press it in the hole, as it looks like just a pin to keep from overtorqueing the threaded studs. Any help would be appreciated.
