Thanks Jim, but you can keep the broom handle.LOL

When I need one next time, I will just machine it.

Rob, according to local Napa dealer, they don't make the Chevy spline anymore due to the fact that the sell the $28 universal kit, and Chevy clutches come with their own! I guess I could buy a Chevy clutch and use it, but I will just give the broom handle a try. It looks pretty good alignment, and tomorrow I will see if the shaft goes in. Hank, I will mail you my broom handle if it works!

Chevy coarse spline plastic tool, not the universal kit, is what you need.

So what did you end up using? If you bought it, then, from where, and how much?

Tom, I will look for one. BTW, I found a broom handle that fits perfectly into the hub, and if I can get the grooves lined up perfectly, maybe that will go.

Hank, the Napa alignment tool is all metal, basically a handle with numerous screw on metal tips that fit into the pilot bearing, and another metal sleeve that is conical and slides over the handle and fits into the clutch hub. It is $28.

Simon, one must align the two sets of splines to each other. Once the pressure plate is bolted, the two discs will not shift in relation to each other, so one must line them up to facilitate the input shaft sliding through without interference with one plate.

I may be missing soemthing here but the way I've done clutch alignment before is to get a peice of wooden doweling that slides snugly into the spigot bearing in the flywheel and then wind black insulating tape around the doweling at the approriate place until it just slides through the centre palte. This works fine on a single plate clutch.

Why won't this system, or a variation of it, work on a twin plate system?

Thanks Rob, I will call around and see if I can find a Chevy spline. I tried Napa's 'clutch alignment tool' but it was not suited to double clutch. It was a conical shaped deal that slid on a shaft (sounds sexual, eh??? LOL) but wouldn't cover the two.

Chevy spline, try NAPA. Plastic tool, costs 'bout $4.

Anybody know where to get an alignment tool for a ('91 TR) double clutch? TRutlands used to sell something they fabricated, but they are out. Any ideas if I have to improvise??
