I'm used to driving 30-40 year old cars and I've always got tons of spares and tools in the trunk. But the longer I keep a car the fewer things that I carry around: this is because all the parts that were in unknown condition when I bought it have died and been replaced with new ones and I don't feel they'll fail right away, ha! On my current (cousin of a Ferrari) Dino Coupe the engine is rebuilt, the ignition unit, cap, rotor, coil, points and fuel pump are now all less than 4 months old. So my spares box just has spark plugs, several feet of 5/16 fuel line and clamps, a spare in-line fuel filter, water pump belt (already had to use my spare alternator belt), electrical wire and connectors, tail light bulbs, safety wire to reattach mufflers or whatnot if a bracket brakes. Tools include: complete socket and wrench sets scaled down to only the sizes that actually exist on the car, crescent wrench in case I was wrong about that, crimper/striper, pocket size multimeter, a few screwdrivers, spark plug gap thing. I have a spare tire and lug wrench but would have to wait for the caltrans truck to come around because I don't have a jack! Goes without saying that I carry several quarts of oil. Fire extinguisher rides up front with me.

82 GTSi: belts, fix-a-flat, wire and connectors, AAA card, cell phone, several fire extinguishers, several hundred fuses and relays, AAA card, photo-copy of owner's manual, 50lbs of tools, cables, flares, several flashlights, AAA card; oil, jumper cables, For Sale sign. Thought about spare cap/rotor/water pump but didn't want to invest another $1500.00 in spares.

p.s. AAA card

Good Idea for a thread!

The TR comes with a spare tire, but I carry a fixit bottle anyway (heck for <$3 why not?). Since I've had a fuel pump relay fail while out and about, I've added a spare relay or 2 to my TR's factory supplied toolkit. I normally carry a "battery buddy" (a self jump kit) and a can of Ether. If there is someone in trouble and they can't get going with that, then the yellow trucks must get called. Also a healthy flashlight (not just a mini mag), 5lbs. of Halon, gov't issued flares and a decent sized First Aid Medical Kit.

other suggestions (without repeating ones already listed) I've heard:

Leatherman tool set
Length of wire
Change for a pay phone (in case your cell fone dies)
Directory of emergency contacts that will come get you (and mechanics)

I'm sure there are more...

In my cars, I keep what came in the OEM spares kit that came with the car. I "refresh" the kit every few years by tossing aging belts and replacing them (or rotate them into service). In 15 years of Ferrari ownership and close to 100,000 miles of Ferrari driving, I've been stranded twice in my own Ferraris and in neither case did the spares kit make any difference.

On track days, I take a full complement of tools, stainless safety wire, duct tape, ty-wraps and a small misc bag of nuts and washers, a spare quart or two of oil, a tire gauge and a torque wrench.

In my garage, I have enough parts spares to practically build two 308 engines. Wait, I *AM* building two 308 engines! :-) :-)

This was touched upon in the "Clutch Cable" thread, but I thought maybe it deserved a thread of its own.

Considering that Ferrari parts are not commonly available, what parts do you keep on hand? In particular:

1. In car. Water pump (and A/C) belt, obviously, spark plug, and???? Clutch cable was mentioned.

2. In your garage. This would include stuff that your car will probably need someday, and you squirreled it away, knowing that when that day came you would be prepared and wouldn't have to wait for parts. Possibilities: Clutch kit, dist cap, plug wires, water pump, and/or????????
