I have been having a problem with my 85 308 qv showing like 225 degrees when it warms up. It sometimes goes up to almost 250! I was a bit concerned. So I borrowed an infra-red temperature reader and checked all the water lines and block and radiator. Despite what the gauge said I never saw the water temp go above 195 at the radiator inlet. Even when I left it running for 30 minutes on this 90 degree day.

I'm not sure if this means the sending unit or the gauge is faulty/dirty. Any help would be appreciated. The radiator shows a 20-25 degree drop across it's top. Is that a sign it is working enough or should it be dropping temps more? I can't see where the fluid is anything but new and this car had a water pump just a few thousand miles ago.

The car doesn't run like it is too hot. The oil just makes it to 210, never higher..

It' located in the "V" of the engine and screws into the bridge pipe that connects the two water manifolds from the cylinder heads

Where is the water temp sending unit located?

Took the tinting off tonight. The film came off real easy. The glue was a different story. Had to use the wifes fingernail polish remover and a rasor blade. I wonder if she'll notice that I used half the bottle. :-)

Next project....the parking break. It doesn't work at all. I looked under the rear and found the spring mechanism just inside the rotor. It looks like they are rusted and need to be cleaned off and greased. Anyone service their parking break? I'll start a new thread to keep the subjects seperate and easier to find.

Thanks guys,

Jeremy

A cool running Ferrari is a beautiful thing.

Now, removing the window tinting......

Is it as simple as using a rasor blade???

If your oil temp ever starts reading high suddenly, it is likely the sender that has failed. Not sure why, but have seen it happen on three 308's, mine included. New $14 sender and it started reading correctly again...

Very intersting. I had a similar experience--my temperature guage is reading hot, but my mechanic used one of those laser-like thermometers (my ignorance is showing here) and determined that the engine / radiator / coolant hoses was not as hot as the guage was reading...

I might try the "cleaning" method myself and see where we're at.

Our new baby had been running hot. After having JR look into it, he determined that the gauge was reading hotter than it actually was. I took the gauges out last night and cleaned the connections on the temp gauge. What a cluster behind there!!! Today we went throught the warmup process, and the fans came on right about 184 deg +/-, and the temp never touched the 195 mark. While driving the temp was way down. Half way to the 195 mark. That is the coolest it has ever run. And then while cruising the last leg after a nice 30 minute stretch, the temp never reached the 195 mark. Hopefully we have that problem fixed. Thanks to JR and Kelly Vince for the insight and direction.
