Todd,
I have a '90 348 ts. Just installed a new battery. In the engine compartment mine is on the left side. Mine has the + and - terminals opposite to a normal battery. Interstate makes normal and reverse batteries, just have to know which one or the cables will not reach. Unplug the battery switch (big red plug above the battery). Unbolt the cables from the battery being careful not to ground metal to metal (wrench to frame or you could do damage to components). Next new battery in, hook up the cables, plug in the battery switch, start the car and let it ideal for 10 minutes or so (sets the ecu's). Should be good to go.
Good luck,
Jim Hilton

What do I think? I think I should be asleep!

Dealing with a leaking flywheel is a BIG job, it can be done at home with some helpful advice, but it will take far more than 3 hours. Go to our friend Vincent's "348 hot start problem" thread in the archives and read it carefully.

Why would A/C stuff go through a seat belt control unit? My A/C works fine, and the belt ECU's have been unplugged for years.

On each box, there is one gang plug/multi-pin connector. If you look at the picture, the box towards the front of the car has the connector at the top, the box towards the rear of the car has the connector at the bottom. You push in the tab on the connector and lift - it pivots on the other end and disconnects the pins. Very easy, although access isn't too good. If you can't get them off, you have to remove the carpeted panel on the right front side of the console, then you can remove the bracket that holds both ECU's for extra space.

Thanks for the compliment on the pic, Vincent. It only took about a minute to pull the panel and shoot. My pleasure. I had to sneak into the garage without waking up my wife and the new dog!

The two black boxes are both seat belt control units, one for left, one for right, same part number. Mine have been unplugged for years. Upload

Todd: Because of the problem with your power windows, I'm concerned about charging your battery without unhooking the terminals first. Art may not be aware of this. If the battery is hooked up and something is stuck/melted/broken/miswired/whatever causing your power windows to run by themselves, you run a danger of burning up something, if it isn't burned up already. Unhook the battery!

Does your 348 have its battery in the left rear corner of the engine compartment, or in the front? If it's in front, you have to remove the inner fender liner to replace it. If it's in the rear, you can remove it easily from above.

Did you get my messages in the "Dead Battery" thread?

todd: Open the trunk (not the front, but the engine cover. Facing forward, look on the right side of the interior, and you'll see a red connector, and a ground. Hook up the charger, positive to positive, and you'll charge the engine.

I'd learn how to use the search engine here, but there is always someone to help, if you can't locate what you need.

Nope, but there have been previous threads. Just you the search and type in stuff like "348 battery" and see what threads come up. Have you ever used a "search engine" before? Worth learning how to use, very useful.
