1. I bought a racing jack that gets underneath the car just fine. $200 from Kraegen. 2. Welcome to the world of lousy hand brakes for 308 series. I have mine adjusted perfectly, even with the rotors turned, but it barely works. There is a full write up of how this is adjusted (asked by me, provided by Rick Rainbolt) on line. Do a search on "hand brake adjustment" |

Get a helper and have them pull on the e-brake handle or you can pull on the cable yourself. If you see the forks moving (full extention) but the pads are not moving the problem is in the caliper itself. My 78' 308 has this problem. I can pull the cable by handle and the pads won't grab. I also adjusted them manually but that didn't help. |

Take off the front wheels off your floor jack, and that will help. I actually built a small wood ramp to drive the rear wheel over to get another couple of inches. You can also back onto conventional ramps. Other than that, you'll need a very low profile jack. For instructions in your 308 parking brake, see the archived thread at http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/256120/262043.html

Jeremy, Drive all four tires onto some wood to raise up the car before you try to use your jack. If that doesn't work, you probably need a lower jack. Greg A |

Hi guys, This is on an 85 308QV. I just want an F512M. Is it still the same process? Also, I tried to jack the car up last night, but my floor jack is too tall!!! How do you guys jack up your car at home? JL |

Jeremy As Henryk says you need to service the adjusters inside the rotors - I would also check that the inner part of the handbrake cable is moving freely within the outer cable. Might be a good idea as you are removing the internal adjusters inside the rotors to remove the handbrake cable, soak it in a penetrant and re-grease it. |

I recently worked on my TR parking brake.......probably the same as the 512M? You will have to remove the wheel, caliper, and rotor. The actual action mechanism is inside the rotor area. Clean these, re-lube them, and adjust the brake shoes. |

Next project....the parking break. It doesn't work at all. I looked under the rear and found the spring mechanism just inside the rotor. It looks like they are rusted and need to be cleaned off and greased. The cable is tight so I don't think it is a slack problem. Anyone ever service their parking break? JL |
