That is correct, however by not having the light you will not know if anything else goes wrong with your computer system without occasionally checking the OBD2 for data and or codes. |

Ed: Thank you for your reply. If I understand you correctly the post cat sensors will cause the idiot light to come on but will have no effect whatsoever on the fuel mixture, hence the performance will not be affected? If this is accurate is my mechanic correct in telling me not to worry and to simply disconnect the light? Thanks again! Mark |

By removing the cats you either eliminated the post converter 02 sensors or if left in, are not detecting the proper oxygen content due to the elimination of the cats. All 1996 and later cars are required to have a Catalyst monitor to verify the effectiveness of the converter. While having NO adjustment ability to the fuel mixture the post cat. 02 sensors will turn on the check engine light if the operating parameters are not satisfied or if they simply are not there. |

Can anyone shed light on a check engine light which has been on continuosly on my 1996 355 since replacing the cats with Test Pipes from Tubi? I was told this might occur...question is will it affect the ECU in any meaningful way. My mechanic told me to simply ignore it and bring the car in to disconnect the warning light. The car seems to run fine and the sound is incredible especially in combination with the Tubi and K&N air filters installed. Also, any guesses about the total HP gain with the Tubi exhaust and Pipes? |
