John, how did you get the carter pump to fit...I bought the small low pressure Carter from Summit and could not find a single place that would work for mounting it... gave up and just put a Holley Red on with their regulator set to 3.5 psi...works fine and I don't think it is terribly loud...then again I have no cats and a euro ansa exhaust system. I have heard bad things about the facet pumps...not enough volume and too much pressure...Ferrari of Atlanta sells the square facet as a replacement for $150..that's about $120 more than it should cost. I looked at the Mallory low pressure and it looks like a tight fit with their integral bracket..I thought it would hit the gas tank using the existing mounting holes.

lol, James! I should point out I've had my Bendix pump at the track twice, and have had no issues with fuel delivery.

Goto www.summitracing.com & search for fuel pumps. There are some high capacity racing pumps for carb'd cars. |

Do you have the part # on the carter? Where did you purchase it? |

I use a small carter pump on my 308.I can hardly hear it.The carbs only need 4 or 5 psi line press.I have not had much luck with Holley pumps on anything. You can regulate press by changing the orfice on the return line. |

Mike, yes 15 seconds... Richelson, Mallory's cannot keep up with the fuel flow at high RPM's or on the track. Bendex, Facut, or the original Corona are the recommended pumps. The rest are cheap spares. |

The Holley works fine. I was just looking for an alternative in case mine fails that maybe a little quieter and that I could get at a local parts store. Anyone try a Mallory? |

Loud is right. But, you don't hear it over the engine. Just during the 15 seconds or so to get some fuel in the carbs. (You do wait 15 secs or so before startin' 'er up, yes?!)

Whatever pressure regulator you use, don't buy one from Napa. It almost burned my car down. |

Richelson, I use the Bendex pump like Mike said. I did not replace the pressure regulator. I know a couple of guys that run a Facet red pump. All the aftermarket pumps are LOUD.

Haven't touched the pressure regulator, but have heard of folks replacing it at the same time as doing the fuel pump... --Mike |

What are you both using for a pressure regulator? Any reliability problems with the Holley or Bendix pump? Need to buy a pump/regulator this week. Many thanks, Russ |

I'm using a Bendix pump. Was purchased from GT Auto Parts, in Arizona, I think. Seems to work well. Louder than stock, but not horribly so. The first one failed and had to go back, and was replaced on warranty. Required some rubber grommets to deal with the vibration. I think that Matt Lemus ("The Don") uses the same pump in his carb 78 308. I had heard, when researching this, that the Holley pumps were quite loud. Let us know what you finally work out.

I am currently using a Holley Red pump. It is quite loud. What other fuel pumps work well for carb 308s? Where did you purchase them? How do you like it? Does AutoZone or Advanced carry an aftermarket one? |
