I agree that the car did sound pretty good. The system was basically 4 "glasspack" style muffles and some pipe welded together, similar to what Al Burtoni sells for Lambos. http://www.lamborghinidiablo.com/V12/m5.htm It wouldn't be too hard to fabricate if you are handy with a welder.

Good Points! The seller of course said it is not intrusive when cruising or going down the highway. When running he did hold it at a constant rpm and it didn't sound bad to me at all. The noise was quite loud out the rear (good thing), but not bad at all in front or sides of the car from the doors forward. At idle it was a surprisingly deep "muscle car-like" sound, and when revved it did the often-mentioned indy car sound. I always thought guys were getting a bit carried away when they said their cars sound like an indy racer...but by golly they really do! And it is easy to swap TR exhaust systems in just a couple of hours, so I could always go back to the factory muffler. My car has hollowed out precats and cats with the stock muffler, and is nearly as quiet as a fully functional system. Quite disappointing really. That Watson system couldn't weigh more than about 30 pounds, much less than the factory system total at about 100 pound! |

Jeff Would second Sr. Napolis' comment. I have a tubi and am very pleased, but it is a bit distracting if you (or passenger, trust me) are not in the mood. best rt |

Jeff One thing to think about before you go for one of these systems. Is this a sound that you want to live with? Something that sounds cool when blipped at a stoplight may grow tiresome on a 600 mile jaunt. On this forum I've heard of at least 2 (Lung and Doody) who have removed Tubi's as they found them too much. Best |

There was a nice TR for sale at the Gross Point Shores event that had a custom made exhaust by Watson Engineering. Several times the seller was requested to start the car so all could hear....WOW! Did anyone else on fchat hear that thing? The system was similar to the now discontinued Borla system, in that it was four bullit style mufflers and pipes, one for each header outlet. Very light weight and clean, using factory hangers. It sounded awesome! I have been mentally designing a system similar, and now that I've heard one, will be using CAD to actually plot one out. The guy said the total cost was $1,300. They don't apparently have these as a stock item...since this was "made" for this car. On a side note, as I was talking with other TR owners about it, some fella was not too keen about this Watson system and had nothing positive to say about it. He then started pushing how good the Tubi systems are and implied for an expensive car you "need" an expensive system like Tubi....which he just happened to sell (surprise!) All in all the group of us felt he was a bit pushy and obnoxious and treated us like we didn't know anything about our cars. |
