Bill, Ah, yes, I see it now. You cleaned up all the spots in the interior of the letters. I'd only looked at the edges when I got it from you & formed a wrong impression. I apologise. I must have scanned the thing 4 or 5 times trying to get it straight on the scanner. Even tiny miss-alignments are visable at that resolution.

I can take the scan and create vector art with it (Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw) to get rid of any tilt or distortion, if that will help you guys.

Verrell, This is based on your scanned image. I did touch it up (about 2 days worth of work). You can not get the edges perfectly smooth because there is a slight amount of tilt in your scanned image. I tried rotating it in a photo editing software but it created distortions. Print out what I sent you with the proper scaling and it will come out correct. The only problem now is I need to do some work on the UFI lettering. |

All, I made a silkscreen to do mine. There were a couple of letters that did not come out perfect in the UFI logo. Anyway I am going to offer this as a service to F-chat members. I have just been planning on making another screen to get the UFI logo perfect before offering. Picture of mine:

Jerry, Here is a picture of the job I did on mine which is more like yours than the later cars. I had excellent luck with Eastwoods black wrinkle paint, but have some tips. http://www.eastwoodco.com/aspfiles/itemdy00.asp?UID=2003080801323759&T1=10014+Z&Dep_Key1= First strip it, then lightly sand and prime with self etching primer. I then masked off and painted the interior gloss black. I next painted the outside with the Eastwood product. You do not need an oven but after painting I put it in a big box and let it sit for 2 weeks. The wrinkle paint is slow to dry hard but after 2 weeks it is like stone, before that you can use your fingernail to imprint on it. I painted a piece of metal as a sample to check the drying. While this is happening you can do some other service work. The trick is to put on one medium heavy coat, wait three minutes and put on one heavy coat. I used a thin piece of wood drilled to hold the air box, and painted the top seperately. If you have any questions please call: 805-643-6003 Rob I did my valve covers and oil radiator box the same way, remember the thicker the coats the biger the wrinkles! PS the picture is not very descriptive as the airbox was just installed the airbox and valve covers look exaclty the same it is just the lighting and newness after several heat cycles they looked the same.

Verell- Could you send me a picture of the airbox cover? I have a friend that does silkscreening on shirts and he might be able to do something with it. My email address is [email protected]. |

re:Ferrari/UFI logo I can provide a high resolution (9028x2400) image of my airbox cover with the dual logos if any one wants it to base a silk screen on. While the image is high resolution, but it still needs some touching up with a paint program to be perfect. Mostly because the silk screening on my cover has slightly fuzzy edges. At the request of another F*Chat member, I laid my airbox cover on a scanner a while back & sent him the image. He made a silk screen from it. I'm under the impression that he didn't touch it up because when I asked for the touched up image, I'm pretty sure I got a .GIF file containing a negative of my orig. image back. If someone does touch it up, I do request a copy of the touched up image back.

Thanks Jerry...oops, yes, I realized that you had a '77 after the fact...sorry for the confusion on my behalf. Sounds like Jerry W. had good results using his process. Hope yours turns out well...keep us posted. |

I see that you have a '77 so it is like mine. I had mine sand blasted and powder coated with the flat black wrinkle finish. |

Jerry...I refinished mine a while back and it wasn't difficult at all...just a little time involved. Here's a link to the discussion thread in which I outlined the procedure used (along with some pics) -- http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/256120/4741.html Here's a couple of pics how it turned out:
This will suffice until I decide on whether or not to send it off to ICP and have it done with the silkscreen (Ferrari / UFI logo). |

I am going to see if anyone has completed this project. I am also going to ask my restoration shop that has done some minor detailing for me what is the best way to proceed or how much he would charge to do the job..I will let you know. Mine is not bad BUT could be better... |

I have the same thing, except that it is still usable. What I am going to do is to remove it, strip it (various methods available: bead plast, paint stripper), primer it, and paint it wrinkle black. I need to bake it for a durable finish but have no oven big enough. Baking it in the sun only goes so far as it does not get hot enough. That is what I would do. What you would do is ... |
