The OBD II system that your car has does turn out the lights on it's own after 3 20 minute (approx.) running cycles if no further faults are recorded.

If you've run through 3 cycles with a light still on and it doesn't go off on it's own, there may be a fault being picked up by the monitering system. It could be as simple as loose gas cap to something like a miss.

i have a 98 355 f1 spider that i let the battery die. after fixing the problem my check engine light came on. car runs great. local ferrari dealership said that the light should go out after running for a while. i have driven the car about 250 miles but light is still on.
