O.K., Steve, Mike, Jeff and Jonathon, thanks for the inputs. I figured it out earlier this P.M. I unmercifully banged the seat forward 4-5 times and finally got it far enough to gain access to the 2 rear bolts and the seat was out in 2 minutes. Didn't know about the ball bearings so I'll be careful about those. Tomorrow,on to the upholstery shop for new carpets, etc. Thanks for the help, Roger B. |

Roger, I just had to go through what you are doing (removing a seat) in order to replace a broken seat latch. There are 4 bolts holding each seat to the floor (each slider has one in front and one in back.) Forget trying to get the seat off the slider. Can't do it when the seat is mounted in the car. For some reason, sometimes the bearings get jammed in the sliders, and it will appear that the seat cannot go far enough forward to be able to see/remove the rear bolts. I assure you that they WILL go far enough forward--with the proper amount of persuasion. If yours are stuck, hold the seat latch open and slam the seat forward a couple times with vigor until the offending bearing moves and the seat slides forward enough to get at those rear bolts. It'll make you cringe, but the seat will go far enough forward eventually. A word of warning. The nuts into which the bolts are screwed are supposed to be affixed to the underside of the car. In many cases, they are no longer affixed and when you loosen the bolt on the floor, the nut will spin with the bolt and you will have to put a wrench on the nut underneath to get the bolt out. In the other case, the bolt comes out but then the nut drops out. If you car is like mine and has a thin metal sheet under the car, you will not be able to access the front nuts underneath without removing the metal. Pain in the neck! Once you get the seat out, be careful you don't lose the little bearings in the sliders. They tend to fall out. If you do, they are (in my 1977) standard 1/4" ball bearings that you can buy at a hardware store. Good luck Jonathan

On my 328 I had to first remove the front 2 allan bolts from each seat that hold the frames to the floor of the car, this will enable you to slide the seats foward as possible to get the rear 2 on each seat |

Just undo the 6mm allen head bolts -- as Steve said, don't try to remove the sliders from the seats.

Roger -- Slide the seat all the way forward and you will see that there's an allen head bolt at the rear too holding the slider to the floorboard (The seat and the slider mechanisms come out as a unit). |

I'm looking for advice on removing the seats on my '80 308. I can't see any locking pins or anything that would release the seats so I can slide them out or unbolt them. There are 2 bolts holding the front of the seats to the slider and 2 allen head bolts securing the slider to the floor board/frame, but I can't find any way to unfasten the rear of the seats. I will appreciate any help on this. Thanks, Roger B. |
