First place to look for a vibration induced intermittant would be the connectors for the main relay board. That isn't the only possible location, but uf the problem is there, you need to catch it before it damages the plastic shells and induces more problems. If you catch it in time you can just replace the pins.

Gleaning info from this discussion is a bit hard, so, as a newbie, noticed my 328 heandlamps get a bit "golden" once shaken up after a drive. ANy suggestions how to best trace wire and connectors to avoid this process?

Hi Dave,

Well it isn't a difficult job at all!
Once I had the five layers spread out it appeared to me that this is in fact the electrical wiring diagram. Just follow the copperpath of one solder-point to the other and solder a wire between those points. That's all.
The only problem is: don't stop and finish this time consuming and boring job.
For each layer I used a different wire-color, so its very easy to find defects later. Acces is now possible. OK, I know: its not original at all but for me reliability is far more important to me.
Another slight change had to be made in order to fit the cover over the relay-board.
Because of the thickness of the wires it has moved slightly forward (1 cm) so I had to relocate the nuts who hold the board a little.
It's not disturbing the looks of the dash.

All systems are working perfect and more acurate now because the electrical resistance has disappeared. Before heating and ventilation valves operated slow and sometimes none, headlight('s) pop up with delay. But today everything obeys instantly. Great!

What matters is: wil there be new problems after some time? Today I took the car for a ride (350 km distance) It's still going well.

Regards.

Hayo.

Hayo,
All I can say is "WOW". I would have shelled out the money....Did you have to trace everything out? How did you know where each wire needed to go?

IMO fuse board failure is due to the lousy plastic connectors, if you look at each wire that goes into the connector it is a pinch type connector to the fuse board, these connectors will spread out too far and cause arcing and damage to the connector and fuse board, if you look you will see burn marks on them.

What is needed is a better connector from the wires to the fuse board

Replacement by copper wire has been succesfull. Headlights are working and coming up again! Everything else still working OK. It was a hard time consuming job, but now it's visible to see if anything is wrong. Have a look at mij self cooked spagetti!

Thanks Jeff for the photo!

Its the thing allright. Nicely priced too. (with or without tax?)
In the moment I'm trying to replace the copper strips in the five layers by common copper wires.
Maybe this will improve the reliability of the electrical system. If not: chequebook !

Hayo.

Hi enthusiast drivers!

I have a problem with my fuse-relais box.
One relais stays activated (LH liftermotor) and there are relais rattling. Speedo and rev-meter are jumping, startermotor won't go.
Checked the wiring for shortcuts and bad contacts.
Everything seems to be OK.

Is it possible to repair or check (test) the laminated print?
Are there used ones to buy?

Please help with used part or tips.

Thanks in advance,
Hayo.
