Oh man, intermittant problems are a bear to find. It sounds like the main control line from the AC fan switch -- the system enable control. All you can do on an intermittant is to pull out parts and wiggle connectors to see if you can track down a loose connection. BTW, a "jumper" on the thermostat would be to take the two leads off the thermostat and connect them through a fuse. (The thermostat is just a temperature controlled switch). Similarly, you could jumper the appropriate leads of the main AC fan control to see if the problem is in that switch, but you'd need the wiring diagram to tell which leads to connect. But you might start by checking fuse #5. |

There is no air atall comeing out of the A/C vent, but there is hot air comming out of the air vents if needed along with fresh air if so desired. Its just the A/C,nothing happens when i turn it on.Its like an intermitante problem that either works or not if it wants to. |

The console thermostat on mine was a G.E. 3ART5RF46. You can search for 3ART5 or 3ART54 on the G.E.Industrial web site. It should be available from a refrigeration supply house. (According to the GE site, it's made for a "drinks dispenser" -- e.g. a Coke machine.) Installing is a bear, because you have to replace the ammonia filled tube from the control in the console up to the evaporator under the dash -- you have to remove most of the console and kick plate forward of it. But if you have no aircon fan (blower for the cabin) that could be the fan speed control switch rather than the temperature control. Or it could be the fan speed control transistor (mounted up by the evaporator). Does the system blow warm air, or not blow air at all? |

So the blower is working but it's not blowing cold and the compressor isn't kicking on? Mine was doing the same and the cause was a bad temperature control in the console. Try jumpering around that switch and see if the compressor kicks in when you turn on the blower. The switch itself is made of Unobtanium at this time. You can try cleaning the contacts to see if that solves the issue, or you may just need to leave the jumper in place. If you leave the jumper in, make sure it's fused. |
