Another easy way to determine wear is if the grooves are worn off. Flywheel resurfacing only costs about $20-40. No reason to skip it. |

Your mechanic's test method is pretty much legit for any kind of car, to test for slippage. If he has it apart, it's easy to check the thickness of the disc, the minimum thickness is listed in the shop manual. If it's beyond the wear limit, it's worn out, whether it has 300 miles, 3000 miles, or 30,000 miles. Worn out is worn out. From the email you sent me, I'd guess he's right when he tells you that the previous mechanic didn't know what he was doing. There is no excuse for using a chisel to remove the ring nut. That mechanic had no business working on a Ferrari. The shaft seal probably leaks because he installed it wrong - it isn't easy. If you are replacing the clutch disc, you need to replace the pressure plate as well. And if the flywheel has burn marks, it needs to be resurfaced - by someone who knows what he is doing and knows the specifications! Sorry about the problem, Todd. It isn't your fault. Whoever did your PPI missed a lot of things, didn't he? |
