Wayne.

Try this simple test. When the lever is in Neutral, push it forwards into 3rd gear and see how far up the slot it travels. Now pull it back into 4th and compare the distance of travel. If it goes further one way than the other, your engagement cable needs adjusting to centralise the travel.

Now remove the screws from the gate and put it in 3rd again. Rock the lever sideways towards 1st then 5th and compare the distance of travel. If it's different, your selection cable need adjusting. This test is less accurate than the 3rd/4th test but a good guide nonetheless.

It's a bit tricky to adjust as you need to disconnect it all to turn the rod ends, and only half turn adjustments can be made.

It's a known weakness for the big bush on top of the gearbox where it meets the A frame to become slogged out. You can see this in your mirror when pulling away, as the engine jumps around all over the place, and also your tailpipes deflect so far they can foul the bumper. There is an upgrade bush to fit, and if you make enough noise, your dealer will do it for zip.

Challenge cars have an even better rubber bush, which again has been upgraded from first designs, and I think this is quite a good fitment to a road car, but that's up to you.

As your problem is apparant only under acceleration ie. the weight is transfered to the rear, the problem sounds to me to be a case of minor adjustment on the selector cables.

After my recent shifting problems in my 328, I would say to have them first, dump the gearbox fluid and refill with fresh.

Have you warmed the car up. This used to be a standard Ferrari problem, wouldn't into second, unless the oil and parts were warmed up. I thought it got fixed with the 355, but maybe not.

Can you be a bit more specific, wayne?... could this be a syncro problem or just a case of low/bad gear oil?

btw... wayne... didn't you used to run a 944T with Doug H? I remember you from one of the NSX runs - I think it was a canyonball run - you and Doug showed in your 355's at the time...
