Dave, Thats a great site! Now all we have to do is get Ferrari to release its P1 codes. Tom, I beleive that Ferrari has an excemption based on it's limted # of cars produced each year. And I am sure about there Pin 4&5 reversal, the excemption allows them to reconfigure their OBD-II port from the standard config. |

I have used the snap-on scan tool to clear engine lights in Ferrari's with no problems. I have always done it with the engine runing. It's the only way it seems to work. Trying to clear the code with the key-on-engine off sometimes does not work. Any OBDII scan tool must beable to retrive and clear any emissions related device code by international law. |

All I know is that I do not have to deal with a security module and I can read and reset all codes as well as Cat info. The only problem is what do the codes mean??? I am by no means an expert on this but I cannot figure how an unmodified scanner can read data from pin 5 when they are set up for pin 4, in fact in a lot of scanners pin 5 is blank in the connector. I am not doubting any other post but I just don't understand. My scanner does not give error codes it gives ferrari P codes.sloan83qv

Any higher end OBDII tester will give the code as a generic error number and depending on the information, may even tell you the possible circuit. My OTC tester will give me limited code access and I can reset the light if necessary without any sort of modification. I have been told that there will be a European upgrade for the OTC next year that will allow full access and code explanation for the bosch motronic type systems like Bmw and Ferrari. I told them to order it for me when it becomes available, but I`m not holding my breath. Best regards, Jim

>>Ferrari puts out their data on Pin 5, all other cars use pin 4. All scanners are set up to read data out on Pin 4, pin 5 is blank. I made up an interconnect harness that converts the data from Pin 5 car to Pin 4 scanner and it works like a charm<< Well that raises the question of HOW kevin neal hughes was able to 'reset' his MIL with security module pushing and beeps??? any answers? |

any OBD-II scanner will plug into the ferrari connector but Ferrari puts out their data on Pin 5, all other cars use pin 4. All scanners are set up to read data out on Pin 4, pin 5 is blank. I made up an interconnect harness that converts the data from Pin 5 car to Pin 4 scanner and it works like a charm. You can read all the codes and reset the check engine light however the big problem is the codes read out as prioity codes like P0411 and no one has the knowledge to know what it is refering to. The only way to figure it all out is too trip one code at a time and make a log as you trip the light my pulling sensors...time consuming. By the way ferrari was granted a special excemption to change code out pin from standard because they make less than 5000 cars a year. |

i reset my "check engine" light today with a OBD2 scanner. i tried a couple of times without results until i called a ferrari specialist that informed me that i had to press security module until you hear the two "beeps" then reset the code. it worked...... |

Rob: Is there ANY current newer Ferrari that can be serviced, as in the Ferrari dealer, with easily available diagnostic tools? I thought that Ferrari HAD to make cars that can be serviced with "generic" diagnostic tools........or are they exempt? Or this law doesn't go into effect till something like 2006? |

Victor, disconecting the batt to clear codes only works on the OBDI (1995 MY). What you are asking for is the SD-2 and that is Ferrari proprietary (sp). They are BIG bucks (read tens of thousands), and you have to have the SD-2 to reset any malfunctions. There are some generic scanners out there but you will only be able to pull the error code. |

Victor, I am working on this same situation with my Snap-On guy. My understanding is you can read the code with an OB-2 reader, but cant reset them without the proprietary Ferrari computer. JH

I have a 99 F355 six speed, 7500 miles. The check engine light came on. Car runs fine. I checked the gas cap and disconnected the battery. Light is still on. The closest dealer is 250 miles away. Can a generic obd scanner read the codes and save me a trip to a dealer. Does any one know of a scanner that I can buy that can at least read the code and tell me if I need urgent service or if it can wait for the major this winter. |
