For my 308 engine it was simply a matter of compressing it with my hands and then slipping it unto the mounting studs. I think I had slightly mounted it on the furthest stud, catching the edge of the belt and in a twisting motion to force against the belt, popped-it onto the remaining studs and pushed it down home. Next, I spun the engine by hand two revolutions and tightened the centre bolt on the tensioners to the required torque. I confirmed cam position after that and made any necessary adjustments (to do those, I may have removed the tensioners again, or not, I can't remember, its been two years now...). |

I finally have all the parts I need to get my TR back on the road. I need to replace the crank front seal, and have locked the crank and cams into position. The manual is vague on how to work with the tensioners. Could an experienced person share with me now to compress them, and then release them? As I understand...the pressure spring functions to get the proper tension initially, and then the tensioner is locked into place? Thanks for any help! |
