I've had a couple of 360's with noisy alternator brgs. Also done a few alt tensioner brgs, but only rarely. Usually due to over tightening of the belt by the way. Not a big job on 360 though, so don't be scared of taking it to your tech for a proper diagnosis. 355 alt tensioners, for example, are a tricky job to do with engine in situ. You have to remove the nuts AND studs that hold it on, to get it off the car. I change to bolts when doing this, but as I said, on 360 it's not hard.

Wayne, are you Doug's friend who also bought a 360? Or was that a 355? He rode with me at Laguna Seca last Ja. as an instructor. |

Well..I have heard of pressure regulators buzzing when the diaphram is about to let go. But in your case seeing as you were leaning over the engine(more to the rear of the engine closer to the trans bell housing i'm guessing) I would try the clutch trick as mentioned by Verell. It's not an F1 is it?Any whoo i'll check back later time to go to a party!! |

You might try a mechanics stethoscope. Much easier than trying to lean way over and is very usefull in in pinpointing a noises. ~$15

Are you sure you're feeding it enough, or maybe you're not paying enough attention(Heheh). Seriously tho, Is this your 360, or a 3x8? If it's a 3x8, Does disengaging the clutch & putting it in gear with the clutch pedal depressed make it go away? If so, then transfer gears are indicated. Check to make sure the transfer case is full of oil. It may be normal as 3x8 transfer gears seem to tend to whine a little when not under load. Still, better to have an expert take a listen. This is one class of problem where lots of experience pays off. |

hey guys thanks for you help on the 2nd gear problem...but i have one other problem that had been happening..it doesn't always happen....i'm getting this whining noise from my engine compartment...its hard to hear over the exhaust(fuchs..very loud) but its like a whining sound...it goes aways when i shut the car off...its stange...i tryed to lean way over in the engine compartment when the car is running...it kinda sounds like its coming from the fuel rail..but i can't be sure...it doesn't sound major....but i know sounds are a symptom of something about to happen....i have 26k on the car and haven't done the 30k maint yet...it kinda sounds like a bearing noise but not really...it doesn't sound really bad...it doesn't always do it just most of the time...anybody had a similar problem?...thanks..wayne...www.pulpracing.com |
