Finally found one yesterday at PepBoys. Optima has two red top models -- the Group 34 and the Group 34-78. The difference between the two is the former has top posts only, and the later has top posts and side terminals. Local store only had the 34-78 model in stock for roughly $120.00. Battery was a perfect fit. Only glitch was having to purchase and replace the positive cable clamp (old one was too far gone). Thanks again guys...I'm back on the road again. |

Thanks, Mike & Bruce, for the Optima Red recommendation! Kind of had that one at the top of the list, but wasn't sure about the model #. Glad to hear that it will drop right in too. Will search for one today. You guys are a big help! LOL, Bruce! |

Definitely get an Optima Red....the best there is. I put one in my 88.5 TR with zero mods (MT-34 style) and it fit wonderfully. Good luck. Mike |

Well, it appears the current battery in the car is too far gone. Hooked up the battery maintainer and it won't even kick in. Have had the car being detailed over the last several days, and the doors had to be left open, etc. quite a bit during that time. In hindsight, I probably should have left the battery maintainer hooked up the entire time. At any rate, I was curious if any one has had any good experience with the Optima battery (red top) in your TR's. Is it a direct "drop-in" fit without any modifications to the existing battery tray, clamp, etc.? I checked the archives and read where some owners have had good experiences with the Interstate battery, Model No. MTP-91. Was just trying to narrow the choices before I go out tracking one down today. Thanks in advance for any help or ideas! |
