that is a big bucks investment...when I was at Standard Motor Products (17 years ago) they would do an evaluation of the population of cars to decided if they would make or buy the caps...they made pretty much all their domestic caps and their blue streak line...most of the European stuff was sourced through Facet. Believe it or not for some of the Japanese stuff they would buy direct from the OE Manufacturer and put it into their boxes. |

Dave, you noticed the spark plug donuts...great eye! Actually, I'm waiting on a set of new plug extenders from Evans Auto...so I didn't pop them in...just needed to hear this thing run again...last time I had it out was July 1st. I noticed that some guys are charging $250 for the repops...I'll check with FofUK...rather get the originals. |

get the oem factory caps from Ferrari UK. $225 last time he posted. Shipping is maybe $20 and two day delivery state side. There are some possible bad repros out there, so I would stay away from them for the time being...Don't forget to put the spark plug hole caps back on. Or get fresh ones...if water gets down there you WILL get a miss, ask me how I know! :-) |

Paul, I'm not there yet. Maybe in a few years. I haven't come up with a high dielectric/high temp stable plastic that can be molded w/o expensive tooling. Also the doggone contacts need automatic tooling & volume to get the cost down. An after-market distributor cap maker wanted ~$5K-$7K tooling + a 1K piece min. order, both payable in advance. Big big bux startup cost. However, I could sell them for less than $100 each!

After nearly pulling my hairs out over the horrific running of my 78 308...I finally have it back together and running correctly...problem was traced down to a bad coil wire (really bad! it fell apart in my hands)...while I was at it...replaced all wires with new cavis from Jacques, replaced 2 xr700 ignition boxes, replaced both coils, changed the fuel pump to a holly red, rebuilt all four carbs... So is $250 bucks the best price for Distrib Caps these days? Verell...weren't you making some up?
