As far as I know all deep spoilers are fiberglass and the short ones are steel. Have not ffound any evidence of it being different

Newman,
Back in 83, I purchased a Euro 308QV in Belgium...with the deep spoiler. Absolutely fibreglass in construction, as it shattered when I wrangled a curbstone getting on the Mass Turpike. The replacement one, from Ferrari, was fibreglass, as well.

Whats the story on these deep spoilers. I hear some people say the European ones identical in appearance are made of steel and the more common ones for the north american market are fibreglass. They look the same being deep but made of different material. Is this a load of crap? I havent seen a steel deep spoiler yet.

Bill,

Nothing lines up perfectly as that is the nature of the beast. The only place where it is a little off is exactly what you have noted otherwise it is perfect.

Bill I am working on a car now doing a change of spoilers

1. Can the US spec grill be used with the Euro spoiler if the US spec bumper is retained? The mouth of the Euro seems wider and more arched at the corners.

Yes.

2. Does the Euro grill mount the same way as the US grill ?

Basically yes but since the euro grill accomodates driving lamps there are different mounting positions, thus the extra wholes in the spoiler "shelf"

3. I noticed 3 holes which are not used on the grill "shelf " of my US spoiler--what are these for? Are they to mount a Euro grill to the US spoiler? ( Note: these are not the holes which the 4 rivets attach to).

Not all Euro cars have deep spoilers, and not all US cars have short spoilers, the spoiler wholes are universal to accomodate either US or Euro grills. The grills are diffent because of the driving lamps

4. What are some good sources for a Euro grill?

Butch Hooper is good and so is Ferrari Parts Exchange, however, going with an after market spoiler is ok but I prefer OEM parts, mainly because with aftermarket you never know what you are getting, at least with factory parts the quality is there, or not.

5. Is changing out the US spec chin spoiler for the Euro a direct fit--or are some modifications needed? I've already removed my US spoiler and have a very beat-up Euro spoiler which doesn't seem to line up too well. Is this specific to the one I have, which was damaged and "repaired, or are they all off a bit?

With all hand built cars you have to finess panels to line up properly, remember these cars did not leave the factory as perfect. YOu have a better chance of working the euor spoiler to fit properly because it is fiberglass and can be moved around much eaiser. Just take your time and do not force anything it will line up with some work.

The job I am doing right now for a fellow F-chatter is very tedious, remember take your time never force any parts in place, you will have to fabricate some parts and realign wholes and what not. but do not leave any of hte bolts out for it give support to the upper fender section. you will need to fabricate the fender well section. bacause the US is not interchangeable with teh Euro.

Paul--beautiful car! Do you have any more head-on pics to post--especially were the spoiler lines up with the fender on both sides? The reason I ask is that I noticed that your spoiler ( on the driver's side in the shown pic) doesn't line up exactly with the upper fender part. Interestingly, mine doesn't either and I was assuming mine was off kilter. Are they all like this? Does anyone else have any head-on shots of Euro spoilers.I f it's the way they're supposed to be , it would sure save me a lot of cutting, sanding, etc.

Since I changed both spoiler and Bumper to euro I had to change grill, actually I fabricated my existing grill by adding additional vanes as needed.

Everything is availible from Butch Hooper at:

I don't know the answers to 2 thru 4, but the "long" (what we call euro) spoilers were available for US models... my car has one, and they're supposed to be a direct replacement. The grill is identical whether or not you have a long or short spoiler.

I'm considering replacing my US spec chin spoiler with a Euro-styed one. My Q's are:

1. Can the US spec grill be used with the Euro spoiler if the US spec bumper is retained? The mouth of the Euro seems wider and more arched at the corners.

2. Does the Euro grill mount the same way as the US grill ?

3. I noticed 3 holes which are not used on the grill "shelf " of my US spoiler--what are these for? Are they to mount a Euro grill to the US spoiler? ( Note: these are not the holes which the 4 rivets attach to).

4. What are some good sources for a Euro grill?
