Mike, perhaps this has been covered before, but did you add any type of Limited Slip differential fluid (such as GM) to your gearbox, or just straight Redline? I currently have Mobil1 installed in my 308, but am considering switching... |

I use LucasOil additives in my regular oil. I don't think you'd want that in your trans. Add Lucas' Gear Oil is advertised as "super slick" which wouldn't work well with the 308 syncros, which need a little more friction to work right. This has been discussed quite a bit on FerrariChat -- check the archives. Actually there's a thread down on this page that hasn't gone to archive yet. Until it does, you can click here to get the thread. But the absolute BEST thing I've done for my 308QV transaxle was to change to Redline 75W/90NS. I should have done that YEARS ago... it made shifting so much smoother, and the "cold 2nd gear" problem was completely eliminated.

A mechanic in Italy said he thought an additive like Lucas oil in the 246/308 transaxle would help lube the transfer gears. Lucas oil is supposed to increase the "cling" of oil it is added to. Those gears are splash-fed I believe with the top gear farthest from the oil spray. Any opinions? |
