Thanks everyone, I got it open and saw that the problem was not the bulb but the base. The center connectors are supposed to protrude from the spring-loaded surprisingly flimsy piece of plastic but one of them had been pressed inside the plastic. I pressed it out again and it works (but for how long?).

Try this, push in slightly as you turn the screw about a quarter turn. You should feel it release. Then take the pressure off and it should pop out.

Thanks Daniel (and Magoo), I suspected it would be something like that and tried turning the screws 1/10th rotation at a time and wiggling them any which way but I guess I just didn't find the right "combination". It should help to know what's supposed to work.

The folks at Ferrari are really smart not to put stuff like this in the owner's manual: if they did, there would be much less community building between owners...

Paul according to Daniel M.D. who has a 328, the removal is somewhat different from the 308. But it can't be that bad. As far as using the endoscope that's another story. Good luck. BRGDS

On my 328, all three screws are relatively large and use a flat screwdriver. Once you turn the screw just right it should pop out (the screw and "nut" have to be lined up perfectly to pop out). Once you have done this with all screws, you can remove the panel and replace bulb. This is a royal P in the A and may take you a while, but nothing is ever easy in a Ferrari.

Paul, You better appreciate this. I went out to my 308 GTS which should be the same. I removed the carpet cover over the fiberglass panel. There are 3 screws. One which is a reg. phillips screw. The other two are button snaps which wont come loose and are not supposed to come loose. Remove the one main screw and then the panel can be removed from behind the metal reinforcement rod which is up high and the fiberglass panel is a force fit behind it. So just pull down on the panel to remove it from behind the bar. You can't remove it by pulling it straight out. Magoo

Yoo-hoo, anybody there? Please, at least give me this clue: was the question too difficult or too trivial?

Do I have to buy an endoscope to see what's behind that liner...?

Feeling stupid... how the heck am I supposed to get off the piece of trunk liner to get to the bulbs? It's held in place by 3 screws that loosen some but never come completely loose. What's the trick?
