I've bottomed out 4 or 5 time now, just the friend air dam scraping at like 1 mph. No big deal, try to avoid it, but sometimes it happens. It always just leaves a couple scrap marks in the undercoating which I periodically repaint. Once though I bottomed out the middle of the car. Going significantly faster than I should have been and I went up just a hint of an incline, not a hill by anyone's standards and a smooth rise, it just barely kissed the ground. |

Fairly common occurence. If done hard, it can crack the trans case (as Jscott says) and/or crush the rear sway bar brackets. If done really hard, the GTSi is prone to bend the subframe. Check your targa top all the way around and make sure the fit is still good... that's the real give away. I wouldn't worry about it. Jack the car up and make a visual inspection, including the oil and trans pans and rear sway bar brackets.

My 328 was bottomed out and the gear case cracked. You would know righ away in that the gear oil would be all over the place. Is you front air dam cracked? In not, you are probably OK. The car is tougher than we often give them credit for. |

Call me an idiot. Now that that's out of the way...tonight upon entering a friend's driveway, I entered too steep and "thud", the car bottom scraped the driveway. I jumped out, looked at the car, no leaks, etc., and drove it the rest of the evening with no problems. Is there hidden damage that I could have done, or am I out of the woods on this one??? yes....I learned my lesson. |
