Collin,

I recently posted the following thread, showing a drawing of the sender on the transmission housing.

Your speedo sender is going south. You can try removing it and flushing it out with a jet of electrical contact spray, or do what I did and just replace the thing. They are available from T.Rutlands for around $100, I think.

The sending unit is down on the passenger side of the transmission. It is right near the half shaft and all that stuff. If you were to take off the rear wheel and wheel well on that side you would have good access to it. I don't think you could get to it from above, maybe from below, kind of. Best bet is to take off the wheel. There are two wires (maybe one) running to it if I remember correctly. They are the only ones back there so you can't miss them. I would follow them, clean them up, etc. For some reason one of my wires back there is rubbed through, which I noticed upon pulling apart the car.

The speedo on my 82 308GTSi will work, then all-of-the sudden quit. Next time I start the car, it works again, then quits, etc. etc. I obviously need to fix this pronto. I have read on here about the "sending unit" needing cleaning perhaps. Can someone explain to a total car idiot where on the car the sending unit is? And can an idiot like me clean it? Thanks in advance for your help.
