TomD, I just went to Pep Boys last week and put a red top 34/78 in my 328. The terminals were reversed but I had enough battery cable to make the adjustment. Works great. |

They are great batteries. I put one in my gasoline powered golf car that I use to get around my property. I had been having to replace the battery every year before. The Optima has lasted two years so far and still going strong. Once my 348 needs a new battery, it will be an Optima. |

thanks, I put her in and she worked like a charm, I paid 119 for the red top, I hear they last a long time. BTW, I was able to get the old one out without removing the wheel, slide right pass it but the new one was a little bigger so off came the wheel. |

Just to clarify... Batteries are rated in "cranking amps". This is the current that the starter will draw at 12VDC. Having a higher cranking amp capacity doesn't mean that you will use it...it just depends on your starter and engine conditions. But it does mean that if your old battery was less cranking amps, under cold conditions, your new battery will crank the engine faster and longer so that it should start easier. I also purchased the Optima Red top 34/78 because it seemed to fit my 328 the best. |

Get either the orange or the red top, both will work great. I have the orange, which I think I got because they didn't have the red top in stock, I think. |

Tom, In my opinion your choice is fine. Just higher cranking amps. |

I went to pick up an optima battery at pep boys today for my 86 mondial. they only had two kinds- both red top - I went with the 34/78 9083547. It has like 980 MCA and 750 cca, I notice they sell others with less power, Is it possible this battery is too powerful? It looks like it has the same specs as the orange top one which I have heard others are getting for the reverse polarity. Just nervous I am going to blow somethin up with all this power? |
