Skip, We don't want to steer anyone in the wrong direction when buying F.I. or carb. cleaner. As long as we both agree that Techron is a good product we are steering people toward a "product that works."

As I said I think it is a good product, but there is a lot of "snake oil" on the market and I did not want people to look at the label and see Stoddard solvent and think that because it was there they were buying a product that works.
No I am not a chemist, I am the business end of a fuel additives blending plant.

Skip, I'm not a chemist. I don't know if you are or not. Here's what I was told in addition to my previous comment. True the Stoddard Solvent is used to thin the chemistry of the cleaner. But the Stoddard solvent is a better cleaning agent, then say Naphtha, that is used in most of the other carb, injector cleaners. Regardless, I think we both know that the Techron is a great product and works well. It has worked great for me and I will continue to use it. BRGDS.

I have had several mechanics recommend a product called 44K from BG Products. It is not available at stores but is sold through mechanic's shops. I have used it in my cars including the 512TR I recently purchased. I had a Mercedes which seemed to be very susceptible to carbon deposits and this product seemed to stop the problem. It is my understanding that it is strong and should not be used with a great deal of frequency. In addition, it is recommended that you run it through a tank full of gas prior to your next oil change. I guess the dirt cleaned out gets into oil. Find out more at BG's web site http://www.bgprod.com

Yes, it is a good product, but that has next to nothing to do with the Stoddard Additive. I am not sure what the chemist meant when they said it was the key but Stoddard solvent is just that, a solvent. It is one of many solvents that can be used to thin the real active chemistry to a usable treat rate in your car. Unfortunately nothing the manufacturer puts on the bottle as far as contents is going to tell you if it is a good additive or not.

Julian, I agree with you about the Techron. A chemist told me the "Stoddard Additive" was the key to effective cleaning in F.I. or Carbed systems. Check on the shelf the next time you buy and you will find that few if any contain the "Stoddard Additive", that Techron has. I use it in all my cars and don't have any fuel system problems. It has also solved some fuel system problems for me.

Yes. Pathfinder got timing belt changed at 60K & 120K. Most expensive repair was a rebuilt transmission at 92K miles for $2500 :-( heck, maybe they used ferrari parts :)

Have you changed the timing belt on your Pathfinder yet?

I used to add Techron to all my vehicles but then I figure filling up with Chevron Super Unleaded does the same thing (Techron injector cleaner already added) so that's been my practice. Results? '86 RX7 with 160K miles, '88 911 with 85K miles, no engine or fuel injector problems... sold easily because customers agreed engine was still strong. My daily driver is a '91 pathfinder with 125K miles and no problem either, just keep on filling up with Chevron Super Unleaded. My 348TS is getting the same treatment.

I run redline (www.redlineoil.com) SI-1 fuel injection treatment at every fill up (3 oz's per 10 gallons) and would highly recomend this to everyone.

Has anyone ever used fuel injection jet cleaning additive (STP or other make) in their Ferrari? Do they have any detrimental effect?

I use it in my daily driver 4x4 but am reluctant to try it out in the 348 unless someone has had good experience with these in the past. I just feel it might prevent clogged jets, rough running and lots of costs if used from time to time.
