Your tach is not accurate,Trust me.I have seen Tachs be out as much as 2,000 rpm at above 6,000 rpm on the tach.If it feels like its bucking back,YOU ARE WAY OVER THE REDLINE!Back off or you will be needing a top end rebuild.Nick Scianna. www.nicksforzaferrari.com |

One more thing, be sure your speedometer is accurate. When on the highway find the mile markers go 60 MPH and travel a mile using the markers on the road. If it is 1 minute +/- a second or so your speedomter is correct. Have fun in 3rd that should be around 110 or so I think in the 512. In my 90TR is at its fastest 101-103 so I know the 512 is faster than that. Enjoy. Also be aware the speedos tend to be off a bit at higher speeds so if it is a little low (2-3%) you are still in the correct ballpark. |

I did as you suggested and it started missing at exact mph in 1st and 2nd as was listed as max mph in Road and Track testing of 1992 512TR. (Will try it in third when I get enough clear roadway to go the speed required for the 3rd gear test.) Looks like tac inaccuracy is the issue. Glad to rule out more serious problem. Thanks |

Do you have any idea what your speeds should be in say 2nd and 3rd gear? If you think your speedometer is accurate then I would go to second and take it up till it misses like you said and read the speed. If it is correct or very very close then, its the tach. If it is definitely low then you have a problem. The last 500 rpms in these cars adds like 10 - 12 MPH on the speedmoeter so a loss of the last 500 rpms should be very obvious in the speedomoter reading. |

I have a 1994 512TR which I recently purchased. When I get up to about 6700 rpm the car misses as if the rev limiter is kicking in. On only one occasion did I see a split second yellow warning light come on the right side. It happened so fast I can not even verify which one it was. No warning lights have ever come on since. I have just performed 7500 mile service with new plugs and fuel system cleaner added to fuel before oil change. No effect. My mechanic was not able to run diagnostics on car at this service. He did suggest that car may be running normally and that tach is not reading correct RPM. Any thoughts would be appreciated. PS what size is the speaker in the front door panel. Thanks. |
