Tom, I just replaced a few parts on my TR related to a very similar problem (read "Oil dripping from the bottom of Clutch Housing (1990 TR)" in the Technical section for some notes). In my case, the sealing rings for the thrust bearing were worn out/old and they started leaking. I would not drive it too much, or at all, depending on how much oil is dripping. I hope this helps! |

TomD -- Are you talking about the '86 Mondial Cab listed in your profile? The risk in continuing to use a leaking hydraulic clutch system is that it may only be allowing fluid out now (so as long as you keep the reservoir topped up it will sort of work) but if the leak starts to allow fluid out and air in -- then you're toast (even if the reservoir is still full). There should be some sort of drain hole/opening at the bottom of the clutch bell housing -- if the fluid is dripping out there, you can be fairly sure the clutch slave cylinder is leaking and it's time for a clutchectomy. |

The within the last two weeks I have had to fill up the brake/clutch fluid twice. I seem to have a leak just in front of the left rear tire (clutch?) which is not motor oil. Shifting has been fine. The brake lines are due to be bled but I am pretty sure that is not the problem. Is there a seal near the clutch that could be leaking? Any problem with continuing to drive Thanks |
