Griot's Garage catalog has a battery saver like that.

Jim,
Here is a quick check for a short in your electrical system or a check to see if any equipment is left on that would cause your battery to drain. Its not a guaranteed fix but give it a try. (1)First disconnect one of your lead to the battery.(the ground cable should be the one to disconnected)(2)Next connect a DC voltmeter or test light. One lead to the disconnected cable and the other lead to the battery ground terminal. (3) If the meter reads 12Volts or if the 12volt test light lights up, you have a short or something is on which is draining the battery. (4) Now start pulling one fuse at a time till the light goes out. This will isolate the problem and you will know where to start looking for your short.example: you pull your fuse that is for your radio and the test light goes out, you have now isolated the problem to the radio circuit. (5) This doesnt work on all shorts but its a start. Hope it is something simple. Good luck. PS. I thought I saw something in a cataloge that automatically disconnects the battery when it senses a drain on the system. I cant remember which cataloge I saw this but maybe someone else have seen this.

Thanks alot Frank. I will definitely examine those options. It's the one thing on the whole car that my daughter thinks is cool. Have a great day.

Jim, I think you can find the seat belt tracking a lot cheaper than that. Try www.trutlands.com . You may also want to try a non-Ferrari parts source. Those nutty automatic seat belts on the TR and 348 were mandated by the U.S. DOT and appear on a lot of different makes from 1987 through 1994. I bet you can find one for a Chevy that fits perfect for fifty bucks or so. When I needed a York AC compressor for my 328, the Ferrari dealer wanted almost a grand. I cross referenced it and got it at NAPA for a little over a hundred dollars. I think it turned out to be the same one used in a Chysler Aries.

Thanks for the advice guys. Patrick, I know the passenger side seatbelt was jamming and not working properly so I disconnected the wiring just to that side. Repairs approx. $4000 to replace track. Too much for me. I will look for the isolation switch because I travel alot and the car usually sits for a week or more. Thanks for your help

My 88TR did the same thing - it was the seat belt relays that would periodically cycle for no apparent reason. There are two solutions - find the problem and fix it (easier said than done) or use the battery isolation switch - it's the black round knob above the battery in the front compartment. If the car is going to sit for a week or so, this is the easiest solution since these cars have "suspect" electric systems at best.

Also check all your fuse box connections. My battery in a 90 TR did the same thing. Turned out to be a burnt up fuse connection that shorted out lots of things. All the fuses and relays were good. But it showed up first as a weak battery, then blown lights, intermittent AC etc. Specifically check the connections that run along the bottom of the fuse box. Don't just look at them and shake for a tight fit. Pull them out and look at the base of the connection in the box that's where the burning begins.

I had this problem a few weeks ago. My battery went dead... I just bought it! It got me thinking, I had worked on the red door marker lights recently (weren't lighting, socket totally corroded out). Replaced with a modern light/socket unit (fits neatly in the original lens housing). I turned off the garage lights - totally pitch black - couldn't see a thing with my flashlight turned off. Ahh haa! Light coming from the door crack! With the doors closed. Was on all week!

Try it.

I am having a problem with my 87 TR after it has been sitting for a week or so. The battery, which is good, keeps going dead. I have heard it is a problem with all the electronics even while sitting. I have also heard that there is a bypass that can installed that can help.
Thanks for any help.
