I had the same general problem with my 84 Mondial Cab. After talking with Ferrari of Atlanta I installed a new accumulator. Thank You Ferrari of Atlanta. My car starts everytime now. |

Bret, my 84 308QV had the EXACT SAME PROBLEM, or maybe I should say symptom. The problem could be a few things. MY problem was a throttle plate position sensor thingy. This is the microswitch that, if the car flips upside down, shuts off the fuel pump or fuel feed to the fuel distributor. Mine was not adjusted correctly and due to thermal expansion, the switch was being triggered when the car was hot (on attempted starting). There is an electrical connection at the top back of the fuel distributor (very close to the rear firewall) unit that you can unplug. You may have to remove the airbox to get your fingers to it. This bypasses this safety feature. Try this when it happens next time and you may find that the car starts right away. If this is true, you have diagnosed the problem. The next step would be to have it checked out by a Ferrari mechanic. I believe the adjustment is very specific and no BF Goodwrench type could ever figure it out. Hope this helps. |

I have this (hot starts) problem on my 85 308QV. If I let it sit for like ten minutes it starts again. I have noticed that if I put the gas pedal to the floor (old Corvette trick to open the butterflies all the way) it has a better chance of starting. Is this a difficult thing to fix? Does anyone know where the sensor is on the QV and what I should do to correct it? |

The injector is controlled by the thermal time switch located in the center of the engine block under the intake manifold closer to the oil filter adapter. It usually has a brown plastic housing around the terminals. This item is usually the trouble with a cold start injector not just on Ferrari but on Toyotas and BMW as well. |

Discovered that the cold start fuel injector is not turning off. the only way to start the car when it is hot is to wait one hour from the time it was stoped or to wait one hour from the last time I tried to crank it. Also, I can lift the hood and disconnect the electrical connector to the injector valve and the car will start. Injector located top right hand side of intake manifold. Does anyone know what is tell this injector to fire and what is the best way to repair. Thanks |
