I have a Sony MD in dash and a 10 Disc changer in the trunk. I thought the MD was a good idea, but I never use it anymore. Too much hassle, also CD-Rs are so cheap now, and burning a CD is faster than recording to the MD. So I wish I have an in dash CD player now instead.

Changer works fine , mine is mounted verticle. If you buy a good one with a good buffer, skipping shouldn't be a problem, they are designed to be mounted on various angles.

My insurance says that too but I don't think the stereo counts. In my Europa I have an electric fuel pump and electronic ignition too; I would think they care more about things that drastically effect HP. If I total the thing are they going to not pay because of the CD??

My insurance policy states that the car must be kept in stock, original condition, so unfortunately for me, no modern CD machines. If I get it working alright, then a cassette adapter would allow me to play my Discman.

Why have a multi-disc machine in the first place? If you've got a CD writer in your computer, put all of your favorite songs on one or two discs.

Peter; I must have the same Blaupunkt! Casette shot, FM okay but fades in and out...AM not proporly shielded...I'm wondering if a late 60's/early 70's Blaupunkt has any collector's value??*S* I'm replacing it with a CD as we speak.

I'd be grateful if you could let us know whether you do come across anyone who has installed the Nakamichi unit vertically and whether it ever jumps.

Thanks

Most of my local Ferrari owners have been using a Nakamichi unit which is standard size and accepts 6 CDs at the deck. This one might also work with a verticla orientation.

I dont have a changer in any of my cars because having to go to the trunk to change them seems like a pain in the ass. I dont have to much of a problem changing cds while driving. I just do it at a stoplight in town, or when im driving on the highway. Also, all of the cds i have are really good or i burned them myself, so i dont change them that often since i like all the songs on them, but i guess that means a changer wouldnt be a problem then, oh now you got me thinking about it.

I do see what you're saying Robert, it is a little bit less of a hassle when you can just throw in any cd while you're driving. I guess there are pros and cons to each. I kind of like my in dash cd in the ferrari, but if it was a trunk one I wouldn't mind either. I just think a cd player wherever it is would be better than a md player because you can always just grab a friends cd and throw it in, but that's just me. I'm sure whichever one you pick will be good. The only plus to a md is that then you don't have to run the wires back to the trunk area, but that could be done well if you follow where the radio antenna wires go I guess.

The broken radio/cassette is a Pioneer but I definitely want to change it as I don't have any cassettes anymore only MDs or CDs.

I have a changer in my everyday driver and its had the same disks in it for 6 months. I just never seem to get round to putting new disks in - thought it might be easier if I could just take a disk with me whenever I wanted music in the car.

Thanks for your comments anyway.

Robert, what brand is this broken radio of yours? My Blaupunkt tape-deck is broken, can play radio stations but no tapes. Winter project....

Yeah I think you would better off with a changer in the back. How come you don't like them? All that I have had have been better than in dash cd players. I have a in dash sony cd player in my 308, it's really good, but it skips if I hit a bump sometimes, dang hard suspension. A changer would eliminate that problem, and with a changer you wouldn't have to fumble around like I do between shifting, steering, and trying to get a cd out and put another one away.

Why don't you fix a 10 CD box in the boot?

I would like to upgrade the (broken) radio cassette in my 308 GT4 with a Minidisc or CD Radio unit. The slot for the radio is on the top of the transmission console and is mounted vertically, so you would "drop" a disc into the unit.

I've talked to a few dealers who all say that the vertical installation in the transmission console will give disc reading problems with either kind of unit as they are designed to install at no greater angle than 30 degrees for most and 60 degrees for a few (some Sony models). They all suggest a changer but I never have been keen on them.

Does anyone out there have any experience of a similar install, and if you've had success, what units have you installed?

Any help greatly appreciated!
