I think that you have a loose/poor/resistive connection somewhere, if you dont have the electrical wiring diagrams for your model yet see my site: http://members.optushome.com.au/lanforce/Data/Ferrari/Mondial/Manuals1/Mon%203.2%20Wiring%20Cat%20488%2087.pdf Get some CRC eletrical contact cleaner spray (the one that leaves a non-silicone residue) and a small wire brush and clean the electrical contacts of the fuse box. It is best to completely remove it (label all the wires & relays first!). I just did this last weekend and things is good. My problem was an intermitent fuel pump or something like that. I have also had a problem with the ignition switch being partly open circuit, it lets enough current thru for some things but not all electrical devices (due to low current) remove the ignition shroud/ignition barrell and give this a blast of CRC also whilst rotating the key in the barrel. Most mondial probs are simple electrical contact problems that will tie your brain in knots trying to figure them out, best to clean all contacts first and then test from there. Also, the big long white connectors that plug into the fuse panel, make sure that they are pinch so that they make contact with their appropriate spade connector on the fuse board. Also, if you strip the fuse box completely (strongly recommended and no big deal) make sure that you insert a male spade connector (like the ones on the actual relays) into each of the spaded female connectors on the fuse board and pinch them closed if they have a loose grip, also check for dry joints (they will eith appear dull or loose as opposed to shiny and firm). When resoldering dry joints on the fuse board, leave the exisiting solder in place and add new solder - don't go overboard - if it is still dull then suck the old solder off and apply new solder. Do not use more heat than neccessary as you may damage the circuit board layers, do not apply too much mechanical strain to the spaded connectors as they are soldered onto the flimsy circuit board layers. Ensure that you use a wire brush to clean all the relay connections, fuses, & other spaded connectors on the fuse board. Replace any relay or fuse that won't wire brush up to a shiny new surface. Coat the freshy brushed contacts with liberal amounts of CRC. Drain the fuse board of excessive CRC for a few hours before refitting. And, add this to your yearly maintainance chores! Also do the same to all visible electrical connections in the car, particularly in the engine and front bays. Also check for loose wires in spaded connectors and squeeze with pliers or replace as required. Have a look at my 87 Mondial page for my service log of this and other jobs http://fly.to/mondial PC |

My 86 mondial started up perfectly last night but when I went to turn the headlights on - nothing. the parking brake light on the dash was on but I also had no juice to the clock, radio, bonnets. The windows worked, as did the antenna. After letting her idle for a few minutes and warm up the clock began to flash (I did not do anything - like jigle wiring etc) and then I tried the lights and radio and they worked. Drove it with no further problem even going over a few bumps in the road, I don't think I have a loose connection, the fuses look ok. any ideas? |
