just did a rebuild on my fans, lubed the bearings with a light oil and filed down a set of brushes I got from a electric motor shop. I had to drill a small hole to feed the shunt through and then soldered the shunt to where the original one mounted. Cost of rebuild was $4 per fan. This was on a Lucas set of fans and boy do they ever run smooth now! |

Peter, I did the same with my 308 GTB. I just took them apart, cleaned them and they worked perfect. Before that one of the fans was making a terrible noise. |

Most aftermarket parts stores have catalogs with universal fan motors that could be easily adapted and matched up to the factory fan motors. |

The Lucas fans seem to do a pretty good job keeping my car at a steady temp. Because of the front mounting, they get hit with road debris and rain, thus they get packed with rust and crap. A simple tear-down, cleaning and regreasing breathed new life into mine. Sorry Gerrit, no idea what other Brit car they came off of.

Yeah Greg, These A/C conversions I spoke of were on my 66 Vette, my 63 Avanti, and my 57 T bird. The final correction on the Vette and the Avanti was six blade fans using a fan clutch. |

I replaced the twin fans on my QV with a single high speed unit from a Porsche 928. It works really well, I found out later that it is the same unit as a 'S' class Mercedes fan at a quarter of the price. No modifications really needed. |

I have one fan motor that is already defunct. I am looking for an exact replacement (originality is important to me) at a reasonable price. Does anyone know what other cars there Lucas motors are used on? I'm also open to buying used ones at this point. There was a pair on eBay but I got there too late.... :-( 1976 308 GT4, Euro |

Magoo, those are the ones I am using. They work great on every car I tried them on. Much more effecient than the stock fans IMO. Did you flip the blades around to pull before installation? I use them on my 308 (pushing) and on my Lotus (pulling). It keeps my Lotus below half even with A/C blowing in the heat of the summer. |

Greg, Are these the fans that mount in front of the A/C condensor or behind the radiator with a push or pull air flow. They do not mount in the orig. mounts do they? I think they have nylon straps that go through the radiator or condensor fins to mount. Are these the ones and do they work efficiently? Are you using one or two? If these are the ones I tried them on some of my other cars that were A/C converted and I didn't have much luck with them. |

I used Hayden fans. Work GREAT! They are about $80 each. Very high speed. Hope this helps. |

The quattrovalvole fans are a lot better than the the 2 valves from what I hear and will just bolt right into a 2 valve no problem. I guess that would be a good way to go if you are gonna go OEM. |

Has anyone used or upgraded to after-market cooling fans on a 308? I have one motor starting to go bad, thought if there was an after-market kit that equals or exceeds OEM cooling I would give it a try. Thanks! Mark '82 GTSi |
