Thanks for the help guys. I'm going put gauges on it this weekend and see. I was supposed to get a shipment of Freeze 12 here, but the morons at auto-refrigerants have taken 2 weeks to ship my order and I'll be leaving WPB on Sunday. I'll bet that the air is being diluted, so I guess that I'll be digging in the duct work tomorrow.

Thanks again.

In my '87 328 I have the heater cores out with the heater hoses by-passed, and the car still gets real hot. The extreme heat is intermitent. I am going to do some further research and try to determine if the heat is coming from the radiator hoses or from the radiator fan.

Make sure your heater valve and outside vents are closing completely.

The heater hoses are all intertwined with the vent hoses (those big paper like ones), I don't know that enough heat would come off them though to do this. I have the same problem though Kelly so I'm interested in finding a solution. It makes the car insanely hot, it's a hot car to start off with and then with hot air blowing out the vents even when supposed to be off it's just a little too hot for comfort.

I noticed one thing this weekemd. Top off doing 75 down the interstate. my bottom AC vent was at 110.
When we came back from our little trip we had the air on, We got 55 Degrees

You think I have a heater valve open????
Does the hot water for the heater come anywhere near the AC?

With the green house effect and the heat under the dash no wonder we are all complaining.

What do you think Edward?

The sealed line going to the switch has a thermal bulb attached to the other end and is inserted into the evaporator coils and shuts the compressor off before it freezes over. It is also adjustable to shut off earlier if it gets too cool in the car {Fat Chance}. You are really going to have to get some gauge readings for a proper diagnosis. If however, the outlet pipes from the evaporator {low side} is cool or cold it may be that the system is operating OK but is being diluted with warm air from your heater.

I have exactly the same problem.
My car was at Ferrari Garage for major service.
They told me that a revision to AC was done.
It just functions the same way - BAD!
Let's see if we get some help. :-)

Hi guys,

Well, I traveled to West Palm today and started to do a check out on my 328's a/c system. I took in all the threads that have been discussed over the last few weeks on the subject and thought I would find a simple solution to my "no cool" scenario.

What I found is that the system seems to be working properly (compressor engaged, no bubbles in sight glass, fans kick on, line running to evaporator is getting cold but not freezing). I don't have a set of guages here to check the system pressure, I was hoping to just see bubbles in the sight glass and then ad some refrigerant...however, I don't see anything in the sight glass. Is this right? Shouldn't I see some fluid flow? There's nothing there, yet I think the system has adequate pressure (I checked functionality of the pressure switch).

One other thing. Has anyone ever experienced the a/c switch on the console to fail or not work properly? I'm wondering why that switch has a sealed line running to it.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for any help.

Mike
