Neville, You will need to re-time your distributor if you take it off or rotate its housing. Bill |

Erm, okay. Taking the dizzy off completely scares me a little (e.g. how the hell do you put it back on again, without altering the timing ??) Also, will mine have the advance weights like that, considering the fact it's not a points based system (it's the factory electronic ignition, with 2 coils, 2 electronic ign units (which sit BEHIND the coils on the firewall) and one dizzy. When I take my dizzy cap off, all there is is a white plastic blanking disk (which doesn't want to seem to come off) which the spindle sticks out of ... ? Thanks for your time ! Nev |

Neville, Please insure the pins with internal springs (indicated by the red arrows) are free moving and the springs are in good shape. These items, and the weights in which these are imbedded, control your ignition advance curve.
Peter, I hope you don't mind me editing your photo. Bill |

Well there are weights which advance the rotor for timing, but this is below the points base. You have to remove the distributor and on the back side are six small countersunk screws. Firstly remove the top spider, remove the top bearing and rotor. After loosening the six screws, the whole distributor shaft and advance mechanism pulls out. Just keep all of the little springs and washers together and note the locating marks that Marelli provides (either a stamped "X" or a yellow painted dot). This is how it was like it for mine, yours shouldn't be that different.

I've heard that, on a 308 carb with a single dizzy and electronic ign, there's a bob weight inside the dizzy itself which needs lubing at service time. After taking the distributor cap off, I can't see any obvious way of getting into the dizzy itself .... how do you get inside ? And how (and what) do you lube ? Thanks ! Neville |
