Caribe: I had a similar problem with my '86 Porsche 944. I installed a second, self-adhesive antenna on the windshield right above the one embedded in the glass. It worked great and I didn't have to drill a hole in the body, which is what all of the professionals suggested.

Since we are discussing Radios in this thread, has anybody found a way to get better reception from the winshield antenna on a TR? Is there a better alternative without having to install a stick on the car?

And Talk Radio. That's all I listen to these days. Much better than that noise that they now call music.

A.M. radio stations broadcast traffic reports...essential data for the enthusiast in an urban area.

There are people out there who actually listen to AM radio? I've been spoiled early on in life with HiFi Dolby stereo systems, that I just can't stand the AM sound.

I removed my old speakers in lieu of getting some new ones, so I can't say whether my red extenders and BPR6EVX reduce noise now. I can tell you before with my black extenders and BP6ES plugs I couldn't receive anything, AM or FM. I'm sure replacing my 20+ year old Cavis spark plug wires with modern, noise-suppressed wires will have made a difference as well.

I had the same problem with AM reception and poor reception with a Family Service Radio. All was good after replacing the non-resistor spark plugs with the NGK BPR6EVX plugs which are the resistor type. BTW, my car has the stock black spark plug extenders....

Russell, I think I mentioned the antenna trimmer in another thread we had here on F.C.. This adj. is only if your stations on A.M. are weak. However if you are receiving the stations ok without the engine running it probably is not the ant. trimmer adj.. Radio shack has a filter that is in line and installed on the hot 12 volt line to the radio. This works very well. Also even if you don't have the correct extenders you should be using resistor plugs. My car has the black extenders and I had noise in my A.M. until I changed over to the NGK resistor plugs.

I never use AM, but if I'm not right near the transmitting station (ie not really close to where the signal is coming from) then I don't get good FM reception at all. I can reception in my Jeep like 65 miles away from the city, the Ferrari like 5.

Alternator feedback or cooling fan feedback? May need to ground the alternator.

Hi,

I have a 1985 308 GTS and when I play the radio on A.M. I encounter only RF noise. The radio stations come in great when the engine is not running. The car has black spark plug extenders and I am not sure if those are causing the problem.

I found a message posting that suggested changing from the black spark plug extenders to the red that have noise suppression. I would like to know if anyone else has black extenders on their 1983-1985 308's, and if they have a similar problem or not.

I also found a suggestion about checking to see if the antenna trimmer is out of adjustment. I haven't verified this yet, but I wanted to get feedback from other people with regard to the spark plug extenders before I check the antenna adjustment.

Thanks

Russell
