Craig, Just a hunch but as Ed suggests remove the belts. I think one of the belts I would remove, with the other belts on, is the Alt. belt and isolate it. A bearing going bad in the Alt. could give those symptoms. I believe check small things first.

magoo,

I haven't been able to spend the time to do a search yet. I am in the middle of changing locations for my business this weekend. I suspect it will be next week before I can work on it. I suspected the belts and idler bearings but the fiberglass air intake tube is new. The way the noise sounds is very different than I'd expect from a belt or bearing because it seems too slow of a squeak for something turning that fast -- and the squeaks just come quicker when the speed is increased.

After I dig into it I will report back on the problem and solution.

Craig, What did you find to be the problem? Curious.

The fiberglass tube that comes from passenger side air intake to air filter is notorious for rattling ( in '89 they changed this to a flexible tube because of this). I have had this fixed twice by removing tube and padding it but then a DIFFERENT rattle then eminates from this side (all we changed was the harmonic freq). The rattle can sound many different ways. Currently mine is ok but I know it will come back. Your sound is in the right location for this but it may be as others have suggested. You can remove it and drive a short distance to see if that was the source

I had this when my A/C was on. If I turned it off it was gone. The belt needed to be adjusted.

I would first remove the drive belts and see if this corrects the problem. You can runthe car as long as you watch the temperature. If that does not correct the problem, you may have a timing belt idler/tensioner bearing going bad.

I have a chirping noise that comes and goes -- not loud but noticeable. When I first start the car to warm it up, it's never there. The noise usually starts about 10 minutes into the warmup. It seems to be coming from the right(passengers) side of the engine. It's a constant pitch chirp that chirps slightly faster when the RPM is increased (but the chirp doesn't change pitch). When the engine is warmer at about 15 minutes, the chirp suddenly stops. While I'm driving, the chirp comes and goes.

Any ideas??? I am unable to pinpoint the source.
