I believe J.C. Whitney has them.

Nev, As I said diesel owners have used these sticks for years. Just plugs into a wall socket and goes into the dipstick tube. You will probably have to search the internet, unless these guys know where you could find one. You want to be sure it goes all the way down into the oil pan to properly heat the oil.

Hey, I've never heard of those .... good idea though !! (non-invasional, if you know what I mean .... you dont have to cut into anything) Maybe they dont sell them in the UK .... ?

I was just musing about the fact that my 308 carb is the usual right royal b*tch to start when left for a couple of weeks in winter ..... all that churning, starting, stalling (repeat for 5 minutes) CANT be good for the engine ! Hence why I thought about the pre-heaters .... and wondered if that would improve things ...

Nev, If you are concerned about pre-heating the oil and easier starting on cold starts, why don't you get a electric dipstick which has been used by diesl owners for years. It keeps the oil warm for easier starting. However it won't heat the interior of your car.

Has anyone ever fitted an engine preheater to a 308 (like the one below) ?

What did they think ? Worth it ? Improve cold starting ? Where did you fit it / patch into the engine cooling system ?
