Yep you were all right. Took the car to the mechanic this morning... This will set me back some $$$ (asked him to replace the clutch as well). Thanks |

Marcus, Mike and Bob are right on the money. Depending on the condition of the steel plates in the clutch pack, you may be in need of only replacing the twin disks to refresh your clutch. The T/O bearing is the source of the noise as you describe it. Not a complicated job, just alot of busy work. Once the exhaust is out of the way it's pretty easy if you are looking to do it yourself. |

Update: On the way home from the office, the high pitch noise was now there even while driving, altough shifting was still smooth. |

Sure sounds likes the throwout bearing going south to me. By the time you get to the bearing, 90% of the work for a clutch replacement is done I would do the whole thing. |

Time for the problem of the month again... This time, it is the clutch/gearbox that is acting up. When I start the car and leave it in neutral, an annoying high pitch noise comes from the back of the engine. When reving it seems to dissapear (altough it might just be drained out by the engine). When pressing down the clutch, the noise gets even louder. Shifting is still smooth, and once I get first/second/third etc gear in and quickly release the clutch the car drives fine. Time for a new clutch? |
