sorry I have not checked back here. THAT WAS THE WORK. Pop-riveted, thats what they are. Drilling them is a GREAT idea. As I said, I am on my first project. |

If I'm not confused Martin, most of those panels you described are pop-riveted on. Just a matter of drilling them out. |

Magoo I think I saw a tool that could possibly cut these off. Black and Decker I think has a little cutter that supposed to cut through everything. |

Steve; it is like when you spot weld two metal pannels but with fibreglass that does not work. So the used like a screw that is forced through the glas into the metal and then has a cap. Peter, I actually believe that most of them are not rusted. But I want to take the front piece off to remold it with a better ground spoiler, to get more downforce on the front end. Inside the front compartment you have the same thing between the wall that holds the spare and the two walls that shield the headlight assembly. Want to take these out and rework that whole area with aluminum metal. Bigger alu radiator and extra ventilation for the brakes. |

How about using a Dremel tool with a cutting disc? Surgically better. |

I understand as I've seen it on my car. Its a little clip where a self-tapping screw is inserted through. The clip is the meat to secure the fiberglass panel edge to a body lip (overlaps the two edges and the screw driven through). Martin, they're frozen soild with rust eh? If you have a compressor in your recent tool purchases, knock these clips off with an air-chisle, or grind off with a die-grinder. You'll probably rip the fiberglass with an air-chisle, but its an easy fix. Decided on an engine yet? |

Martin -- can you explain "tag/tagged" a little better? |

My project car has a few things that I will have to post as I go along. My first time doing major work on a car. So please bare with me for asking dumb things. The front lower spoiler is a fibreglas spoiler that is tagged onto the metal parts. So are inside fibreglas pieces tagged together. It is not a screw but a tag. How do I remove these without destroying the body and especially in hard to reach places. I though about grinding them down but that does not work everywhere. Can not fit in to all the places with the grinder. 308 GT4 - 208 GT4 |
